I replaced the plugs today now you mechanics know exactly what I am talkin about now dont ya anyhow i have 164000 miles on this engine and the plugs were original. yup thats right 164000 miles on high thread plugs. every mechanic AND part store clerks I found let me know that 99 percent of the time number 7 WILL break if you have 100000 on them, law of murphy at work. hardest one to get at. anyways if you break it you pretty much have to pull the head. guess what I got all eight out with NO break offs SO I'M A 1 PERCENTER LMAO simplemod and hxtr 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options... I also have an 02 F150 with 140,000 miles with all the original parts and still running like a champ. The expedition has had one problem after another and it still needs a ton of work. Right now it has a vacume leak that causes the AC to shut down while accelerating a year after I paid $1,500 to replace an AC hose, ball and U- joints need replacing, I paid over $2,000 to fix the transfer case last year and it's having problems again, and it has a front wheel bearing going out. Sometime between 2002 and 2005 Ford decided to go from making one of the best trucks to pieces of shit. Oh and the Expedition cost $60,000 when I bought it new compared to $28,000 for the F150. I'm glad you've had great luck with your 250 but I doubt if I'll ever buy another Ford product. For the amount of money I've dumped into the Expedition I could have a couple classic trucks completely restored and with a new engine put in every few years, and I could actually work on them myself. Dark Asylumn Posted June 11, 2012 Member ID: 809 Group: *** Clan Members Followers: 41 Topic Count: 251 Topics Per Day: 0.05 Content Count: 2835 Content Per Day: 0.54 Reputation: 1016 Achievement Points: 20374 Solved Content: 0 Days Won: 0 Joined: 11/29/09 Status: Offline Last Seen: 17 hours ago Birthday: 06/25/1979 Device: Windows Author Share Posted June 11, 2012 (edited) ok sounds like it is time for you to replace your plugs overdue in one. here is how to do it without breaking the plug. park your truck after 6-7 hours pull air cleaner, any thing else thats getting your way. pull the boot packs DO NOT try and loosen the plugs. instead pour seafoam into the spark tubes. fill them up and walk away. after 4-5 hours come back and crack loose the plugs no more than an 1/8th a turn. walk away let sit for minimum of 10 hours. after the time has passed go and remove them slowly. if you are having a hard time turning the wrench, tighten it back up and then try and loosen it again. you WILL hear poppin and screeching its normal, just dont put all your muscle into loosening it. if it still wont budge move on to the next plug and let that one sit another few hours. after you get all the plugs out turn the key and let the cylinders blow out the seafoam. get you some good hi temp ceramic anti seize and put a thin layer on the lower shield of the plug, do not get it on the tips with the electrodes, install your plugs and whatnot and then your ready to start your truck. it wont want to start and when it does it will blow white smoke out the exhaust like a fogger. thats the seafoam and carbon burning out. run it until the smoke is gone. you have now just became a 1 percenter like me lmao. oh this only applies to the 5.4l if you have the 4.6 then well youll blow a plug out driving down the road OR strip the threads while removing them, but you will not break them and this process does not need to be followed. take your time and youll see a marked improvement. We bought the tool if they break off so when they break off you can get them out. No problems yet with the GM's Also ford has a problem with exhaust manifold gaskets and manifolds cracking. They seldom ever break one. And also I have a 2003 F150 Sport 4x4 with the 4.6 in it. It's low miles, still, but the reason I got it was the life expectancy for that engine is 400K plus. The farmers around here mostly have Fords, and the dealership I bought mine at, says that most of the 4.6L engines that come in the shop just need routine maintenance stuff like plugs and filters, and brakes and such, and many of them have 350K to 450K on them. One in particular is a 97 F150 with 700K on it and the guy wants to check price on new engine so when it quits he can put another in it. He says it still pulls perfectly fine, and nearly every mile on it was pulling a trailer as well.
