What you are going to need to do is have them elevate the vehicle again, but with someone inside the truck to 'drive' it while it is in the air. Being an AWD model this makes like very easy for finding rotating noise like you have since all four wheels will rotate in the air. With the vehicle elevated and a helper driving the vehicle at least 30mph so it is into the noise range, they are going to need to take a stethoscope to confirm the failure point. Stethoscopes are very cheap and they should not be without one anyway. If you/they need to pick up one, they can be had usually for under $10. They will want to start by probing the rear wheel spindles right up against where the axle goes in to the back side of it. This is the housing that the bearing is stored inside. Compare left to right and front to rear; if you are in the speed range when the noise occurs, the stethoscope will make it abundantly clear as there will be lots of noise in your ears... it should be dead silent. If the bearings all check out silent, you would then need to move to the differential and the carrier bearing (in case you got a new bad one). Realistically though you will probably be dealing with 1 or 2 rear wheel bearings, they are extremely common on the Endeavor, specifically 04-06 models. Regardless, it will be very clear the issue once the stethoscope is used; the only noise that you will hear at driving speed like you describe and not be heard when elevated is tire noise (cupping, scalloped tires), however since you have new tires this certainly won't be the case. If you find the rear bearing(s) are an issue, they take about 20 minutes each to change as they are complete hub assemblies, no pressing required. The bearings run about $200 each. I'd bet my last doughnut its failed clutch pack in trans is the issue, i tak it to another dealer for they are giving you the gears use a white tissue and pull trans dipstick wipe with tissue check for grit and smell the fluid...does smell burnt? also colour pink or brown on tissue thrust bearings between planetary gearsets can cause this noise as other said diff but it won't make you press hard on pedal to move car if need to press hard on pedal indcates low fluid or slipping clutch or torque converter stator failed Edited October 14, 2012 by KaptCrunch Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options... If you're reading this because of recent trans problems it is probably too late. The F4A51 trans (and it's variants) are put in chrysler' date=' hyundai, and mitsubishi cars. The "wave spring" next to the overdrive/reverse clutch drum is to thin and weak and breaks. Large pieces of this spring fall into the oil pan and are sucked up past the faulty trans filter and lodge in the oil pump. This eventually breaks the large thick gear in the oilpump. Once that happens it's a trans rebuild. The good news is if your trans has been slipping and a little funny it might not be to late. The wave spring and filter can be accessed through the back cover. The replacement wave spring (from the dealer) is 4 times as thick. Replace the filter with a aftermarket filter. You might be lucky enough to not need the rebuild. There is NO TSB or recall on this. Look around on the web for pics of the wave spring, and broken oil pump gear. It cost me $350 in parts (A rebuild kit, clutch pack, oil pump gears and body and a new filter) and 6 days in labor (spread over 2 weeks). I think the OBD has transmission stats in it, presumably that includes transaxle info. Have you checked for any OBD errors? Not all trip the Check Engine light.
