Hi! I wonder what would cause this on my vehicle

1-When I make the long road everything is fine but when jarrete a stop light or a motor that is run in a low compression (below 500 rpm) and the engine would stop and slap

2 - it is also under heavy rain (lightning)

3 - I clean my idle and the engine from a small popping noise like a tic tic tic tic tic repetitive.

I do not really know what is caused by what? but I'd like your opinion

Oh yes, the engine is a non turbo american 420A 135 900 miles

now that tic tic tic is lifters making that noise. then your motor stopping at stop lights sounds like timing or just needs a tune up plugs wires

some imports WILL NOT RUN very well once the lifters/rockers get out of adjustment

the f23a is one such motor. I did not realize mild valve lash would cause so many problems but they do

if this occurs during rain storms then its moisture on old igntion parts arcing-so take a spray bottle with water and spray your igntion wires and cap and rotor.while your engine is running...if you see sparks and and it stalls then replace wires and cap and rotor.

Have the car obd scanned for any codes.....sounds like timing and the computer is attempting to correct so at different speeds it may seem fine....How ever this is a interference motor so when the belt goes u very well may take the head out with bending/breaking the valves....I believe a p1390 code would verify timing is incorrect.....check engine light may or may not be on or may come and go...

REPORT BACK ANY CODES STORED

also turbo or non-turbo?

only @ stop signs? might be Torque convertor lock up also. if ur thinking wires. i've put a brand new set on before that were junk. and they were really nice set. easiest way to check wires is with a MULTIMETER. put it on OHMS and should be between 0-10 ohms if not that check the coils for corrusion or rust. and just get electrical greese on the connections and place wires back on. and every mitsubishi engine i've ever messed with had rocker noise. easy way to pin point where sounds coming from is get a long screwdriver while it's running and hold the end against something and other end against your ear. you can figure out exactly where the noise is coming from. works as well as a mechanics stethoscope.

If your timing belt slipped a tooth or 2 on either of the 2 cams or crank, they will not run correctly.

It's recommend that you change your timing belt on those engines every 60.000-8o,000 miles.Or 96.5606-128.748 km kilometers

You don't want to chance timing belt failure on these engines. It will ruin both heads and every piston that the Valves will happen to come in contact with. And most likely it will ruin the block.

compression gauge can tell you whether head gasket, but if the belts off it will have low compression also. check oil for milkiness. exhaust may smell sweet. also pull radiator cap start it, if it starts shooting out. yeah that would be a head gasket. also might have burnt valves, vaccum gauge will tell you if valves are seating correctly. should be 15-20 inches of vaccum.

do what is said above... cap and rotor and wires if you have not.

plus make sure and change the fuel filter. The pump could be struggling.

one more thing.. try a tank of super, 93 octane. The higher the octane the slower the fuel burns effecting timing. See if that has any effect. But I dont recommend changing octane if you are not having a problem.

BTW from what a small engine repair friend told me.... it is best to run 93 octane in your small engines. Something to do with the ethanol in the lower grade. Causes way more gumming up in engine that the non ethanol. he claims there is less in the 93 octane. Not sure if this is true but I took his advice.
