i got a suburban 97 mod. 6,5 td. problem is that the rear breaks locks one wheel on the rear axel. one day it is the left. the other day it can be the right. but never both.

it happens right after startup. and disapers after i driven for a bit. the rear end of the car shakes bad between 40 60 mph while braking. like you pulse punch the break pedal. ive shecked the drums and they are fine. nice and round. and the brake shooes are fine. no strange wearing. the shaft from trans to rear axel was overhauled last spring. and the problem came long after this.

enybody who had this problem? and can tell me what it is? ive checked the forums on norwegian sites and it seems this is a sicknes with these cars. people just ignore it cause the cant find out what it is.

Help me.. before my girlfriend`s boobies spits out milkshake....

97 Suburbans have ABS (anti-lock brake system) brakes which are controlled by a small computer. Sounds like yours is messed up bad.

Unless you know how to deal with those kinds of problems I would strongly suggest going to a certified brake expert and get it done right. I changed my own brakes most of my life but when there are ABS problems I won't touch them.

you can take the fuse out for the antilock brakes and it will not effect the brakes. Make sure you check the Diff. fluid i would change it if ithas not been done . If it has limited slip you should add the additive to too. At the town garage where i work we change the trucks between 50 to 75 thousand miles. Cheap insurance.

Make brakes are adjusted correctly

Check rear axle seals make sure they are not leaking on rear brake shoes

Had a similar problem on my old pickup truck.Ended up replacing the Ebrake cable on 1 side and took apart both rear brake assemblys and freed up both automatic brake adjusters.

You should bleed your brakes while you are at it.Air on the line can cause you alot of trouble with anti-lock brakes.

13867-001.jpgyour problem is the brake backing plate are bent or the ABS malfunction to cause a lock-up. disable ABS by simply unpluging the harness from the abs unit under the hood. Edited by KaptCrunch

Mekketom forgot to ask does the brake pedal feel soft/spongy?

brakes must be bled by someone who knows how to actuate all the servos and solenoids in the correct order one at a time during the bleed process.

when braking do you feel a pulsation in the steering wheel or thru vehicle?if in steering wheel then cut front rotors and inspect pads and calipers..if thru vehicle then cut drums and inspect rear wheel cylinders and shoes.make sure to adjust rear brakes properly..if its not brakes then pull rear axle cover off and inspect for bad teeth and metal in pumpkin

if it has abs and it occurrs at the end of your braking then usualy and bad front hub/bearing which comes with a new abs sensor is needed..if loose its easy to find the bad one if not then bring to a mechanich that has a scanner to drive and find the bad wheel/sensor problem.

and Im sorry in advance for the 6.5td..

Could just be the Speed control sensor to the wheel...Mine when haywire and fixed my problem replacing the speed control Sensor. Simple job takes about 10 mins. Good luck.

this is an old problem that i have dealt with before. check the flexible brake line going to the side that is locking up. many flex lines have the inner lining of the line collapse and when you step on the brake it puts pressure on the wheel cyl. then when you release the brake the collapse traps the fluid behind the collapse and the wheel cyl. won't release. now in the case of brake systems that have no individual flex lines to each wheel it may be as simple as a piece of debris in the wheel cylinder that backs up and plugs the hole the fluid enters the cylinder by. remove the wheel, brake drum and disassemble the cylinder and rebuild it. also purge the brake fluid system.

my 89 gmc had the issue i took the drum off and just cleaned it. just soo much dust in there with mosture made it really sticky and it would grab. fix was $4 for can of brake cleaner. also some graphite pads and shoes when they get hot grab like crazy. i've ruined few rotors with graphite pads.
