So, I finally got a new mic, plug it all in and get it ready to rock and roll on the COD2 servers, nothing working! I get sound but no voice is being detected. It might sound like I fucked up yes, but that's not the case. It seems to work fine normally, I can have a voice chat on Steam and Skype perfectly fine with no issues but when it comes to COD2, it completely cuts out and all I get is sound like a usual pair of headphones with no mic. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do that might actually get my mic to work on COD2? I tried looking in the options and talking but nothing came up on the bar that detects sound. It works on everything put COD it seems lol

If you are using a USB headset, perhaps COD2 not detecting the mic.  Check your PC's sound settings and make sure that you set your default recording device to your USB headset and likewise for playback devices.  I've heard of some issues about mic detection with USB headsets.

LOL I have the same issue and have had it for years. Can get the mic to work once in a while but then for no reason will not work. If I go through xfire it works but I don't want another application running when I game. I have both a USB and regular jacks but NONE will work on a consistent basis. This has persisted through win XP and now win 7. Crazy and I gave up.

Its a 3.5 headset with two jacks on it, one for sound and one for the mic, they both work fine in the ports they belong in because I can chat with my friends on Steam and Skype but not in  COD2 like I said. The computer has detected it of course, or I won't be able to use the mic, it's just COD not detecting it, it's getting frustrating to say the least!

It's not a USB one like I explained but when I DID have a USB one years ago, it worked fine, as did my other old one that was 3.5 instead

I had an issue like this before and it turned out to be the activation settings from my keyboard (Z key) not being properly set for, in my case COD4.I have a Steel Series gaming keyboard with multiple game genres. Maybe you have a similar problem. Hope it helps.
