i just acquired a 2000 jeep wrangle tj 2.5 L4. will be getting it here in 2-3 weeks. the engine had a piston break apart with nice size gouges in the cylinder. and the trans is shot also.

So i'm looking into getting a rebuilt long block. im looking to replace as many parts on the engine as possible so it will be a dependable driver.

going to be doing the install myself which im confident in doing, but not so much as in rebuilding, but still thinking i might try doing the engine.......? so far im looking at getting the engine threw autozone, which are done by surefire with a 3yr warranty,(http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Surefire-Engine/_/N-je9qdZ9enw6?itemIdentifier=561307_845936_11266_) had a friend put 2 of this in and 1 of them for his brother and it at 135,000 miles and still going, but if anyone knows of a better engine builder that does 2.5s let me know.? been looking and surefire seems to have good reviews and also works with the better business bureau.

im still thinking about how much it would be to do myself with getting the block fixed and the head also with valves and all...i do have a couple of friends who might lend a hand and give some knowledge in getting it done...and if i can save some cash would be great also! guess ill start pricing that up and see.

ill update with pics as soon as i get started

Take pictures when you get her all fixed up.

Is this your engine? It is a 2.5 L V8? I think you are smart getting the Long Block. Don't take any chances.

no, its a straight 4 cylinder, nothing great. did look into going to a bigger engine but would cost way to much since i would need to get a different trans, transfer case, drive shafts, and more.

That is a big 4 cylinder. It would been a small V8. I thought it would be a V6 or Strait 6.

Amazing how much power 4 cylinder have today. My 1.7, 2500 lb care moves my car along just fine. My folks Honda CRV 2.4 or 2.5, 4 cylinder gets 30mpg and it is over 4000lb. Plenty of power and it a strong engine. Impressive.

just need to swap front springs,  power train and drive shaft's and complete axel's to keep same gear ratio for the 6
