I am now installing the Bfd 4 as I broke down to get it All my specs with the exception of the memory on my graphics card are higher than what is required. I need to know should I buy 8 64bit?

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Loads up shit faster but It will take some time to Disable the Metro Interface and do all the Tweeks and shit to make it run games the way it should.

#1 it will try to Defrag or "Optimize" your HDD while your Trying to play games if the CPU and HDD activity is low.

#2 Metro fucking sucks

#3 It parks 1/2 the CPU cores making them unusable until you Unpark them

#4 Memory usage will be low Until you run it for a couple months Then it will use 1 1/2 times the memory that Win 7 does

#5 If you run the Cracked version of Windows 8 you can Not upgrade to Win 8.1 without reinstalling. THIS Sucks because AMD and Nvidia Both stopped Supporting Windows 8 Driver wise. They suggest that you Downgrade to 7 or Upgrade to 8.1.

That being said If I had known how much of a PAIN IN THE ASS Windows 8 and 8.1 was I would of Never installed it on my Gaming PC.

Wait till they release Windows 9 if you want to upgrade.

It's supposedly going to be tailored for PC Gaming and Computing and very user friendly Without having the Metro Interface.

This was a hilarious read, thank you.

Although of course comedy won't help Dean. Let me pop some bubbles.

#1 it will try to Defrag or "Optimize" your HDD while your Trying to play games if the CPU and HDD activity is low.

- if you manage to play a game that does not load your PC, this won't matter. BF4 certainly won't let your PC sit idle. I play a lot of games and have 6 HDDs, none of which ever get defragged in-game. I think it's more likely you just have a HDD instead of an SSD and are noticing that stuff is being loaded ingame, causing stutter. The fix for that would be:L get more RAM, or don't play Arma.

#2 Metro fucking sucks

- agreed. Get one of the start menu replacers that make it work exactly like win7. takes 5 minutes.

#3 It parks 1/2 the CPU cores making them unusable until you Unpark them

- bullshit. Windows 7 did core parking stupidly. 8 does not. And making anything unusable? nah mate.

#4 Memory usage will be low Until you run it for a couple months Then it will use 1 1/2 times the memory that Win 7 does

- UNused RAM is being used to cache things you're going to use soon, based upon previous use records. Win 8 does this smarter than 7, but both do it and both eventually find things to do with all that spare RAM. Neither of them poses a threat to system speed with it.

#5 If you run the Cracked version of Windows 8

- If you do this, you're a fool. You have no idea what malware you're puling in, you don't get your stability and security updates, and you can't upgrade to 8.1 which is even better than 8.

Let me put it this way. Your framerate in BF4 is going to be higher on windows 8(.1) than on 7. Your pc will be faster on 8(.1) than on 7. IT people will agree that, with Metro replaced by a start menu, 8(.1) is simply a better OS than 7.

So yeah. Install 8.1, legally, and enjoy a faster PC. IF you go to get advice on tech, get it from the tech people.

#1 It Does Defrag and your HDD Activity will be at 100%  Happened to me Damn Every time I tried to play COD4.Wich when loaded up takes very little resources to run.It will also try to run if your simply watching a movie.Wich will more than likely lock your media player up for a bit.You will be forced to buy some other disk utility to defrag or Disable the Service and only use it when YOU want it to run.And it trys to "Optimize" SSD drives.Defraging an SSD drive is a HUGE No No.I have a dead Crucial C300 128gb SSD HDD sitting in my desk to prove that.It was only used for 2 months and Win 8 was activly trying to Defrag it and it corrupted the Firmware.Which Crucial doesn't cover under they're warranty policy btw.

#2 ya spend more money on the incomplete POS OS.And make it look like Win xp unless you spend the big bux and get the one from StarDock.

#3 It parks 4 of the cores on my 8 core CPU and you have to use a utility to unpark them or you will get Alot of Micro shuttering Which acts like alot of small Lag spikes in games.Microsoft Did make a Hot Fix for this but it is not included in they're Updates.

#5 I get All of the stability security updates I have a KMS license key it just doesn't alow you to Upgrade to win 8.1

Not everyone can afford to pay $199.99 for a premium OS.

I've been building and repairing PCs since MS DOS/IBM DOS v1 was introduced back in the 80s.I've had hands on experience with Every Windows OS to date.I kinda know what im doing here lol.

All that crap being said.

Windows 8.1 is Faster than Win 7 by aprox 3.6-6% depending on what program or game your running. As for Compatibility and easy to use? Windows 7 is the ticket. This was the Verdict of a 1 year study done by TomsHardware.com

I beta tested Win 8 and hated it...tried it for a few months and even updated to 8.1...still hated it. They may have improved it by now...but I am happy with Win 7 Pro 64.

Right I own both operating systems ( 8.1 and windows 7). Look I dont know why half of you's like windows 8 compared to windows 7. Yes it may be safer bla bla bla, look I dont even install windows 7 updates cause they are a piece of shit and do nothing . Windows 8 literally force you to do windows updates which are really useless unless its on OP update which has been common on W8 and not on W7.

Boot times may be faster.....by 5-10 seconds? Thats such amazing wow....

When I first installed windows 8 it asked for my hotmail account (fair enough I had one already). Second I enter that info it tells me aload of info regarding my windows phone (which I had at the time) and all it was, was application updates that was needed on my windows phone which needed updating. Half the apps I chose not to update as they were requiring nothing but just information as I just had windows phone 7.8 which windows had dropped all support for. I also had my password into my computer as my hotmail email address automatically even though I never chose to which I later changed. Once I changed that I lost half of the features that were once there obviously cause I chose not to have my email address linked into my windows 8.

Your mentioning extra frames and stuff when it comes to gaming. Windows 8 has Direct X 11.2 and it only gives you an extra 5% extra frames depending on your system compared to Direct X 11 which isnt that much either.

Windows 8 compared to Windows 7 is a complete different experience. Microsoft dont even give a tutorial on how to use Windows 8 once installed which is a huge disadvange for users not being used to it including myself at the time. The customer support is a piece of shit which even has most windows 7 users avoiding it.

And when it comes to unparking CPU cores @@DuckyofDeath123 theres actually a program I got a few months back that does the same for windows 7 its included here:

http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disable-CPU-Core-Parking-Utility

From my experience with both operating systems I much prefer windows 7 to windows 8, I eventually got the hang of windows 8 in the end but still didnt like most of the features as they were more aimed towards tablets than PC's with start menu add ons or not. Windows 8 may be much cheaper at the end of the day but its still not impressing comsumers or businesses compared to windows 7.

Wow. Just, wow.

You state that Windows updates are just shit and do nothing, all the while not installing any. Which means your system contains a shitload of bugs, many of them security, stability or performance related. Yet you somehow feel you have the tehcnical knowledge to then slander me with a misquote. OF COURSE you found a program that helps with core parking in Windows 7 - windows 7 is the OS which has that issue. Unlike Windows 8 which does not have the issue where it parks threads on cores that are busy, leaving idling cores unused and slowing shit down, which is what the core parking issue was about on Windows 7 (and Vista but nobody uses that of course).

Then, you go on at some length about the installation process for W8 consumer, which indeed tried to tuck you into an MS account and if you had a Windows phone tried to tie that in as well. How's that relatyed in any way to it being better for games?

I won't even mention that you subsequently compare your 7.8 phone losing all support (and the apps which you didn't update to current versions and that of course got pulled) to Windows 8 since it's a different OS on a different platform and I have no idea why you would drag that into a simple technical question: is Windows 8(.1) better for games than 7.

The 5% frame hike you mention isn't due to JUST DirectX 11.2 and on my machine it's, I've measured, a fuckton more than 5%. Especially the minimum framerate goes up drastically. Average framerates are useless if you have high peaks and low dips - you want consistently acceptable framerates, rather than some good moments and then stutters.

Windows 8's tablet interface is naff. I completely agree. But the underlying OS is better, faster, more stable, more secure and more reliable in every measurable way than it's predecessor. I don't care who you think it impresses, the adaptation of a new OS is always a 2 year cycle in businesses and as a professional who gets paid quite a lot of money for knowing what he's talking about on the subject of IT deployment and support in a large organization I take offence at the notion that your ignorance and purely emotional "I don't like it thus it must be crap" is in some way as valid an argument against Windows 8.1 as my actually knowing what I'm talking about is.

The question was "which is better" not "which do you like". Specifically the question wasn't "could you all come and bash Windows 8 with unfounded uninformed rubbish and then become angry when the IT pro's point out 8.1 is actually better than 7.

Grown men telling me they know their stuff because they build a PC. I don't know WHAT barron does for a living but it sure as hell isn't anything to do with desktop management for a large company.

Again. The pro's say "get 8.1" and the uninformed and apparently religiously devoted people who are not pro's say 7 is obviously better, despite the fact they don't even know enough to install patches.

I was done with this topic a while ago. I am now also done being "called out" by barron3K who apparently hasn't learned what he's talking about.

Leave me alone unless you want actual tech advice, supported by facts rather than N=1 religious rantings about the virtues of an unpatched Windows 7.

I use StartisBack but there are many other good options out there now. SiB isn't free ($1 pr seat though...) but now there are certainly free ones that work as well.

I don't use any though. Maybe oddjob has an idea?

I highly recommend ClassicShell - free, light weight.  They all have nice features, just happened to be ClassicShell was the first one I tried.

Look just leave it at that ill be typing all day if I continued any more haha

No shit, @DuckyofDeath123  !!

After working with 8.1 for just a few days, I was in love with it.  Decidedly superior to any previous Windows version I've used.  I still scratch my head over the way they felt it necessary to flatten the interface, but in all other regards, 8.1 simply and absolutely rocks.  I will count myself in the "pros" column.  Listen to the pros.  They know what they are saying.

And if you're running a "cracked" version of Win8 then you are getting just what you paid for, and you can expect issues for stealing copyrighted,  licensed material.  It's just that simple.  Cost too much?  Where were you when MS offered Win8 for $40?  Oh, yeah, right, too busy hating on it for the pure hearsay of it all.  Oops.  Did ya really think saving the $40 was a good idea because, well, Win8 could never catch on in a million years, right?

I highly recommend ClassicShell - free, light weight.  They all have nice features, just happened to be ClassicShell was the first one I tried.

I use ClassicShell, too.  It's perfect in that you can configure it to respond the way you want it to.  I have mine configured to give the Win7-style menu if I click the start button, go to the "Metro" start screen if I tap the Windows Key, and give me the default Win8.1 context menu on right-click.  It's absolutely brilliant and the best of all worlds.

I also use Classic Shell.  I've been an IT professional for 16+ years and I can say Windows 8/8.1 is solid.  If you don't like metro, get Classic Shell and you will never see the metro interface again.

Guys. how about we stop arguing about it and go with tests that someone already did.

This guy tested windows 7 vs windows 8.1 on 2 rigs playing Battlefield 4, and did a nice write up on it with graphs and shit.

In every test windows 8.1 won. usually by a small percentage, but it was still a performance boost over 7 in every type of gameplay he tried on both rigs.

It was easy to stop arguing when those in IT say to use 8.1 and those that aren't in IT say to use 7.  :P

I need to upgrade, but I need to wait until I am back in school.
