So, I was trying to find a good way to record my game, and I figured I give AMD's Raptr software a try. Unable to get Twitch to work properly, but the Game Video Recorder (GVR) works rather well for COD4.

dang! no wonder it looks so good. That'll really fill up your HD in no-time.

In Crysis the highest I could go without noticing a hit in FPS was around 5MB/s (not including audio)

(using OBS)

uhhhhhh...  then 30MB/s can't be right at all.   You would have 8GB on your hands.

(4min * 60sec/min + 19sec) * 30MB/sec = 7,770MB

If the dump file was only 700MB / 4:19  then you had at average data rate of only 2.7MB/s

Mb not MB. Assuming that wasnt a typo. However even with that it would still be getting close to one GB. There could also have been some real-time compression and not a dump of raw video.

Correct, Mb as in Mega bits not bytes. There was compression, it was mp4 file format. Actual file size 774MB.

Here's some crysis footage I took with OBS.

I was still trying to get the codec setup right. I gave it as much data as I could without hitting my fps but it still had a lot of trouble with grass.

Check these out for OBS. They might help.

I follow the first one and the final quality before editing or uploading is good for typical footage. Dunno about stuff with lots of grass like Crysis. Two and a half hours will require a huge amount of space however. As all DV sized stuff will.

I used OBS briefly, found Raptr to be simpler and not take a hit on my FPS. If you look at the top right corner, that's the FPS I am getting while recording. Any other software, like Xfire, OBS, XSplit, I take a bit hit on my FPS. Wow 2 hrs 29 minutes that's gotta be a huge file.
