All I did with the damn thing was install windows and a couple games on it.Never messed with the Firmware. Bad thing is that once your Firmware becomes corrupt the drive is completely useless.It will no longer be detected by the SATA controller.I've tried it on several external controllers with the same results. I've has issues with Crucial not honoring they're Warranty before on memory and a ( fairly expensive at the time ) 16gb Flash drive.Not doing it Ever again. My Brother bought 2 of the Samsung 840 500 gig drives and is running them in Raid 0.He says the Read speed is Ridiculously fast in raid but the write speed is actually a tad bit slower that just running 1 drive.He said he's very very happy with them so far. I plan on getting 1 500gig SSD drive and another 8 gig of memory on Black Friday which is just 2 months away.Maybe some other goodies as well. The 500 was only a $100 more so that's what i went with. I think since you are going to ssd, you must re-install.. I 'm not sure but I don't think a straight copy will work right. It may be a pain in the ass but you will have a nice clean OS by the end. I firmly believe windows needs that at least once a year to keep working smoothly. I have an OCZ 128G for my Windows OS only and I had an issue where I had to put the BIOS in IDE mode to resolve a booting issue. @@ChknFngr or as I like to call him, ChickenFucker Samsung (from reviews) and OCZ (experience) have excellent Support & RMA policy. For longer term I would go with a Samsung. You mentioned you've a PCIe SSD from OCZ for the last 5 years? Did they make those back then?
