Hi Folks.

Need some guidance as to Wifi, Phone, Service Provider

My dear old mother has just returned home to Lakewood, Denver, Colorado.

She has been here visiting for my daughters wedding. Daughter No2 has convinced her and her husband (Ex Navy Veteran) that they should get an IPad so we can face time each other.

She does not have a computer, used one when she was working so didn't want one at home, but likes the idea of seeing her grandchildren when she talks to them.

Needless to say they have ZERO Technical knowledge, I mean he has a cellphone so he can call her at break time. I asked how may he free texts he has with his package and he said .... whats a text ?

So i thought some of you may be able to help as to which companies may offer a decent Wifi deal, or a combined deal for the Wifi, Home Phone, Cable TV and Cell ...... or anything close

They do not have Wifi at home at the moment

Their phone is with Verison or something, Not sure who their cable company is.

Believe me that I am not looking forward to the phone calls with all the questions, you should have seen their eyes glaze over when I tried to explain The Cloud ........

Mum is adamant that she does not want a PC or Laptop.

Any help would be gratefully received, I have no idea how these things work in the USA, I do know that it is quite confusing in the UK

Cheers

I would say... loose the Ipad. It's over priced shiny garbage.

Start a new cell phone contract and get the biggest phablet they offer. It'll have a large screen, have internet everywhere, you can face-time and everything.

Get an android so you can also customize the UI to be very minimalist to make it easy for them to learn.

There are plenty of apps like this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.simplymobile.simplephone&hl=en that will make it fool proof.

I disagree.  I think an Ipad is perfect for older people.  Plus you can get one with 4G so you don't even have to worry about wifi setup/configuration.

Cheers guys.

They don't necessarily want a new phone, just wondered which company offers the best service in the Denver area

Since I'm 6000 miles away I can't help them, we have Ipads so it will be easier to talk them through anything.

Grumpy, I will be in Boulder which is just a few miles away from Denver on Nov. 2 through Nov 8. If you have trouble explaining it to them I could swing by and help them understand a bit more. Basically if they are just going to use it for Skype they could get a iPad with Verizon service and not need any other internet connection. Depending on how often and long they skype. I doubt they will ever go over the 10 GB data limit on it.

Best service for them in Denver is Verizon. ATT is kinda shitty out there as is Sprint. Tmobile is second best in the Denver area or so I have noticed.
