I hate how youtube recompresses vids that are already supposed to be compressed correctly but this is a concept test for an AI controlled uav defroster. For the test all friendlies, except for myself, have a timer that will suicide them if alive after a random amount of time has passed. So there are a lot of players to defrost. The timer defroster is immediate also for demonstration purposes but the goal would be a heat source idea like a big flare or fire. I dont know what the kill requirement would be. Would probably depend on the ammo count.

 

So...

 

You have a choice on what will be included in the mod. I can leave the defrost bug for predator and the others or I can fix those bugs and continue working on this instead. Before anyone asks, no it will not have both.

Giving one more week for opinions on leaving the defrost air support bug alone or adding the AI defroster uav. So far I have one each. In the case of ties it will stay as it is and I will do what the big publishers do and call it a 'feature'. Right now, after more time using it, I think the defroster uav is really cool. A whole lot of OW2 players make many posts here but never on what they would actually want to see in it.

Of course like all uavs it can be shot down with sams. I like the idea of a shoulder fired stinger but to add it I will have to take out a custom weapon to make room and revert it to a stock one. Yes one of the weapons I would have in mind for something like that is the G3. I did like that one even tho I wasnt very good at it. Would people be happy to leave out the custom Uzi or MP5, but maybe using a new skin instead, be ok with that?

 

There was a short post on the OW website today and it made me think of an optional server setting I am going to add. What if nobody actually knew how many of the enemy were frozen? This is common in objective games and certainly more realistic. Not that freezetag is in any way realistic. It would also make for an interesting perk addition where you dont count towards the number frozen. You would appear on the scoreboard and team count as unfrozen.  If two or three of the enemy had it you would never see just one left.

Defrosting uav sounds awesome.

 

shoulder stinger sounds great, uzi could go for me.

 

Not convinced about having a perk to hide whether you are frozen or not. I can't see many people choosing it, or would it be added to the stealth perk or something?

I would be an addition. It makes sense to put it under stealth. However that perk is already pretty powerful even tho this idea would be ftag specific and tdm games wouldnt benefit from it. So the idea would require some thought on where to add it. I forget the name of it but there is some kind of 'tactical' perk in later games and it would work there.

Defroster UAV looks awesome!

As for not seeing how many enemies there is left to freeze, I don't think that would be a good idea. Quite a lot of freezetag players hang back and only move in when enemy numbers are low, each round would last an eternity!

And in other objective games the number of players isn't so important.

SnD you end the game by planting a bomb, CTF is score based and Headquarters, again you plant the bomb.

Freezetag, the only way you can end the round is by killing everyone

Not supposed to be anyways. I have seen a couple sniper vids taken in Iraq for example. The sniper was having a good time picking off Iraqi's as tho he was playing a video game. But no idea if he was an actual soldier or one of the hired mercenaries the US seems to employ these days.

 

If I did it, this would be an option not forced. One thing I do is look to find ways to mix things up a bit more. One of the things the RO2 developers said that stuck with me is that there arent enough 'oh shit' moments in cod. Some things are too predictable. OW based mods have a 'weapon jam' option that fits this idea. When it happens you have to take one or two seconds to clear it. Another is that there is a small chance that knifing a sentrygun will actually cause it to explode, killing you. Like the optional 'quick defuse' for S&D.

I'll have to look for that sniper video. Yeah I know that some things are done to spice the game up. I hayte getting blown up by the sentry when knifing, but as you say its an oh shit moment and a risk one has to take.

Is this the 1.46 server? If so yea there are some server issues right now that will be worked on in the future. It wont work except with small maps. Obviously even Creek is too big it seems because it does have a quite a bit of extra models and fx. I havent had the time to find other small maps that will work but will do the best I can.

A question for all.

 

Last couple days I have been experimenting again with shoulder fired missiles. Before it was the stinger and now the javelin. Both are cool and all but there are some serious problems with them because they were never meant to be MP weapons. Or maybe they were but the developers couldnt fix the problems with them.

 

The problem with the stinger is that if you fire at too high of a pitch it shoots up to the same height as the target but after that pretty much just floats there aiming at its target. So in the SP game it simply has forced minimum distance checks. If you are at too high of a pitch it will tell you the target is too close and the fire button wont work. However I cant just disable the fire button in MP since certain functions are SP only. I would have to disable weapons like in spawn protection so you arent actually holding anything. I can control whether or not a lock on would work in which case the missile would just fire straight up like an rpg. At least I think this would work. Is this acceptable if it did?

 

The problem with the javelin is that while it doesnt suffer from the problem of firing straight up... it goes very high then goes back down... it sucks against air targets. Also, if it misses and flies around for another pass it can also get stuck and float. But it will likely work great against ground targets, like the tanks in sp, if I can get the targeting system to work. Unfortunately I cannot get a javelin to reliably go after air targets at all. They miss to often.

Using the lock on should work.

 

Javelin would be ok but there are no real ground targets to be aiming at.

I know the EMP didn't when it was intoduced (and may not still)

Important question.

 

I am scrounging around to find out where I can save on custom assets that really dont add much to the game. One thing is the Pavelow. It is only used for care package drops. So I am leaning towards removing that and do the ac130 for everything. Or use ac130/hind/littlebird. Because its a big model and I could really use the room in the mod ff for other things would this be missed? Also the custom uzi is out. The model really isnt all that much better than the stock one so going to replace it with a nicer skin if I can make one up.

 

Any other ideas?

Just to add, taking out the pavelow model itself removed 2MB from the mod ff that can be used for better things like a shoulder fired missile which is much smaller. Thats about %10 of the whole thing.

 

The littlebird is also fairly large and to be honest it is no better than the cobra. If I can get nice Cobra&Hind skins maybe it wouldnt matter.
