Over the school holidays, I will be teaching my daughter (who is 10) and my son (who is 7 with Autism & ADHD) to play COD4, they sit beside me or there father, watching and wanting to play. My son has clocked the game on the xbox. Their name will be The Squirts, as they share the same computer. They have a fare idea how it works, and as I love not only Freeze Tag but also Snipping too, I will be teaching them both, but only when there is a few in the server.

Nice to know. A lot of us here in xi have children that we also let play in the servers, they carry our names with jr behind it so we can see when a junior is in the game.

To teach your children at this age in egoshooter? for me no way.

Teach them soccer or basketball or something like that but not egoshooter games.

Hmm.. Kids that age, my vote is to encourage playing outside, reading books or something far more mind stimulating than COD4. Their brains are still forming the neural connections FPS games do not contribute much to that if anything at all. When I was 7 my dad taught me to play chess. I couldn't beat him for a week and then I learned how to play around his tactics and beat him. Since that day I have never let him win. My point being that is one of the fondest memories I have of playing with my dad. Games like chess help the children build problem solving skills.

If it helps, it works. You cant lock kids out from our times technology anymore. What we did when we were young isnt happening anymore.

They don't always play Computer Games, we go camping, fishing and doing family things (like board games), they want to learn, so I'm not one to stand in their way, they know alot of different  things.

I'll try not to rage or use profanity as much as I normally do when I see The Squirts in the server.

Playing video games have a positive impact on:

Hand to eye coordination.

Problem solving.

Short term and long term memory development.

Whilst it can be detrimental to a person's health to sit all day and every day in front a computer, in moderation it is beneficial.

If nothing else, they will learn some new words on the XI server. I shall certainly try to curb my language if I see them on.

Those are all true depending on the game, I cant say I agree for COD, maybe BF series because it requires strategy. I suppose H2E is the only skill to be gained.

They love the outdoor life style, but when u been at the beach all day and want to relax the next, they can learn COD. Don't panic about the language,

I'm pretty sure I swear like that at home, LOL, (typical Aussie household)...  Yes it is good for Hand & Eye Coordination, and other skills to. From playing

games he has come along way, and the Peads Doc is happy with his progress...

I am not a fan of COD but I have to disagree with you, all fast pace fps games have a posetive affect on short and long term memory posetively. Learning pos's, moves and such.

And to above comments about it not being good for people with severe autims or autism at all, that's just clear bs.

And to Misty, I think it's great that you game with your children. Today there is almost no better bonding then to game with child/parent. I gamed a little with my father when I was younger. I truly wish we did that more and I think Misty as a parent know to balance gaming/IRL by herself.......

And on a side note, you can always dump them into the mc server. It's also a less "hostile" envoirment there and there is always younglings there...

Let them play COD2. COD4 etc, but make sure they stay away from other "safer", "harmless" games such as Roblox.  My 10 year old daughter likes that game but I hate it with a passion. There are a lot of mean pervert people posing as "kids" that do harm your child emotionally at times. I would, if I could, ban that freaking "game". Call of Duty is harmless, kids these days learn all the bad words at school, in my, not always, humble opinion

Thanks Joe, yes my kids know how to swear just as much as an adult, never hidden anything from them, I always use the motto that I would rather them do it in front of me then behind my back. And I have already had the problem with predators with my daughter, all over Mine Craft on the Ipad.. So please don't think u have to curve ya swearing for them, they r their mother all over..
