I am hoping someone can give me some ideas on a monitoring device for my mother

(baby monitor)

The device would have to work from the one house to other

Wired or wireless is fine

Baby monitors work great for something like that, and they're very inexpensive. Occasionaly people can have another monitor that can listen in on them, but it isn't that common.

If the houses arn't far apart you could go with wireless and place the monitoring one in one house and the receiver in the other house. I've done that before and it works. If they arn't close you get a system like I'm using now, it's made by swann and put everything in her house, enter the info and put it online and view it at your house by logging into the dvr that comes with the system.

Loader I have a Lorex Model# MCNC100 camera that works fantastic. Not the greatest resolution but they have better ones.  BB used to have access to it and her and I could have a conversation using it as it has audio out. So if you hook up to a radio to it that has inputs you can talk like a CB Radio except you have control on the remote end. It has two cameras... one black and white for night vision and one color for I daytime.

The Infrared LED is super bright and makes a room light up big time using the Black and White camera for night vision. It works so well.....

It has a memory slot so if you do the security feature it can record local. You have have it FTP images and Video. You have ability for web access to the camera and that is how BB got access to it. You can have it set off an alarm.. BB was a pain in the ass about that.. lol I could not hide from her.

So many features on it.....

WIfi or ethernet....

I love it... going to set it back up as it is a fun toy.

If she has a pc you can take any regular web cam and have it broadcast the audio to private website. The pc would have to stay on constantly but its not that hard to set up there are many guides out there and apps that assist with it.

Well if she lives right across from you, why not try a intercom system? We used to run a set of those from the house to the shop. We could leave the one on in the shop at night and hear if anything happened in there. Now we have a alarm system in there, it alerts us inside the house but it's silent in the shop, lol once it went off and the shop was closed. Come to find out it was a bird, lol lucky bird they let him go.
