In the new MW2 ftag server, I noticed that people with higher pings are more likely to have a greater number of kills.

Is this related to the mod or does this also happen in/to the other servers? I'm not too bothered by it, but just wanted to let people know who might be able to solve this (if anyone can).

there just high scores that happen to come from peeps who have high pings. nothing to do with ping, all to do with skill or luck...

I did? do share... I don't remember.

@ ping doesn't really have to do with high scores, can you give me examples of ping and scores without naming people?

Well @@P!nk  I hover around 85~110 range depending on server load. I think he is referring to people in the 150+ range.

In my experience across many FPS games...

High pings (150+) is either a disadvantage or an advantage, but never neutral.

I've seen high skill players make the best use of high pings by learning how to lead their shots and use the latency to their advantage.

One way to abuse a high ping is to super quickly shift back and forth when running. To an enemy shooting at you, you will look like you are taking wider zigszags and they will aim most of their shots on either side of you as you are actually running small zigzags in a mostly straight line. The explanation is that you are changing your direction before the server knows about it. The server predicts that you are running left when really you already switched directions and are running right. It only happens for 150+ ms (your ping) but when you flicker back and forth VERY quickly, it adds up all those indirections enough to make other players aim incorrectly at you.

I mean a bunch whose ping are 180 and up; if they run, then move forward with big leaps instead of smoothly. It's very hard to hit them

edit..

I mean exactly what @@eidolonFIRE said. I know it happens without mods too, but I feel like at happens more extremely with this mod

It would have less to do with the mod and more to do with how the server is configured in datarate-range, lag compensation, and how the lag compensation is interpolated.

We have anti-lag disabled, lag compensation was added in Patch 1.3 for COD4MW. The game uses User Datagram Protocol aka UDP, which is a stateless connection. If the client's packets are dropped in the middle somewhere, due to latency, packet loss, dog ate your internet etc etc the server will have to work with the data it received. It doesn't necessarily have to be someone with high ping, it could be someone on a not so great wireless connection too. You will see them skipping or teleporting over the map. Not all high ping players suffer this issue. I will give you an example @@NITRO has a fiber connection coming in. He is from Australia so his ping is in the ~250ms neighborhood. I have never seen him skip or teleport. Yet, I have seen a player with 65ms teleport all over the map.

A high ping does not good player a make! Even with the exploits of a bad connection.

I hate those people...  Always smooth unless they are coming out of a doorway right infront of you.

I'm an Aussie and always play with a ping over 260. I'd swap my ping for anything under 100.

I never win the 50/50  - thats when both players see each other and shoot at the same time...100% death rate there.

I'm always trying to anticipate and I need to be able to shoot a split second sooner than the other people with the better ping.

Often I'm shooting at people and they walk through my bullets, turn and shoot me...pisses me off to no end...you'll usually hear me growling when that happens a lot.

You have to take the good with the bad playing on high ping servers.

If I get time I'll record some gameplay of me shooting players and them walking through my bullets if you dont believe me.

If it gets real bad some nights all you can do is camp it out...like Nighto does!

Just imagine if tables were turned and Xi had an aussie server......we'd kick your ass good and proper...oh hang on .....Prinny already does!!
