Hi All,

I need some recommendations for tires. Where I live its mostly dry weather, we get rainfall for 2-3 months of the year and occasionally I drive up to the mountains in the snow during winter. My car is a RWD with 258 lb/ft torque. Right now I have the Continental ContiProContact 245-40-17 and they're down to 2/32" tread in 3years  giving me ~20K miles. I do tend to hit the gas pedal a bit just really enjoy that kick from the acceleration especially when getting on the ramp. I do go driving on curvy roads occasionally but about 8 0% of my driving is on straight stretches of highway.

I have been reading reviews, specs on tirerack.com and other websites. From the looks of the Pirelli suits my driving style but I am concerned about their mileage rating. I am interested in the 91 V/W/Z rating. I was thinking of sticking with what I have right now but then I wondered if there is something better than these OEM tires.

I will post pictures of the current front and rear tires.

Thank you for reading.

Im in hot ass humid Florida but from the North and I have always had good experience with Coopers

They always ride great on the roads and wear is minimal on blacktop roads which are rubber eaters

and are great in the snow

If you want a performance tire....

note !

NOT going to give good miles for your buck.

Soft rubber compound wears faster but gives

you the performance you are asking for.

JUST fyi....

For good street tires that wont break the bank Michlen is making pretty good tires now with a good quite ride and a variety of ratings. I have used the Bridgestones and had great luck with them on my jeep that mostly lived on the road. a good performance tire is not going to give you high milage at all. Soft compounds wear fast. On my porsche years ago i only got about 8k per rear set and about 10k for the front but those where a true performance tire that was made for that particular rim and car by goodyear.  poeple recomendations seem to run by brands they know, A lot of companies make great tires now. Depending on the weight of your car and how you really want to drive it side wall construction can be as important as the face of the tire. More sidewll plys make for a better turning car unless they are low profile.  with that all said find a good furom on line for your make and modle of car and see what tires everyone else has had good luck with on a car that is the same as yours.   Good Luck

WTF ??????? your worried about mileage and you only drive 20000 miles for three years???????? OMG man !!! if that all you drive just get a horse.... And shoe it three or four times a year!!! When you drive 20000 a year like i do then come talk to me about real tires... The kind you can 60000 plus miles out of and drive on anything all year round!...

PS maybe you should TROLL some more web sites and look for round ones... Just helping...

Thanks for the input guys, I live very to close to work (~5 miles) and most of my regular commuting activities are within a 10 mile radius. I have never kept a car long enough to replace tires on it, so believe it or not this is a first for me. Taking in all I have read I think the pragmatic choice for me is the OEM tires since I plan to change the car later this year.

Right now I have the C350 and I have my eye on the new C63AMG. Anyways, thanks again for info, much appreciated.

Hey Booom I just put on a new set of Yokohama S Drive W rated tires less than a month ago and I love them. Fantastic wet, dry but they are not made for colder climates which makes them great for my area. They stick to the road like glue making drving my car lots more fun.

195/55/R15 is my size...

That's what I had in mind too that feeling your car is just planted on the road.

Had some Perelli Scorpion Verde Z rated all seasons, great tires but not the most economical, lasted about 25k mi.  Got some Toyo Proxes ST2s now and they are a bit more 'fun' in the snow but the whole set cost about what one of the Perelli's did.

I run Viking 225/40/18 rear and 225/35/18 front.

Great tires, i do about 40K miles on a set, i drive a BMW328i and i love to hit the throttle when i have a stretch of open road.

And basically these tires are Michelin B-grade tires. And the only reason they are B-grade is cause they make a tiny amount more noise.

I use them for summer and winter, great grip during dry weather, enough grip in snowy situations (just dont floor it in the snow).

Compared to Michelin prices they are about 25/30% cheaper.

You don't need fancy tyres to drive in a straight line. Just get cheap ones and spend the rest on me!

Yeah well when no ones on the road I hit 3 digits and really push it. In less than 3 seconds i am at 130+ mph. Only lasts 5-10 sevonds but it gives you that adrenaline fix.

So does asking the sexiest lady in the room if she wants to bump and grind. And that might last a bit longer. And is a whole lot more fun :)

My FRAM- AUTOLITE- BRUNO- BIGMAG-TORQER-EDELBROCK-CRANE-MUNCI-ALFRED NEWMAN- MUSTANG

hits 3 digits all the time but those 3 digits are double your 130 mph and a set of rear tires only lasts 10,000 . . . FEET

Thats awesome leadfinger. This isnt really a track worthy car. Does 0-60 in 5.9 which is congenial but no goose bumps. My next car though, inhave high hopes for it. The tesla S are superb but i dont have enough saved to get for playing around.

One thing I have found out is that car makers design there cars to use a certain tire design to give the best all around performance for what the car is designed to do.  There for a similar tire to what is on there would maintain what you are use to. If you move up to a more performance oriented tire that has a stiffer or lower sidewall it will give you better performance in the turns at the expense of a smooth ride, Like wise if you go with a touring tire it will be comfortable and quite but may be a little bit looser in the turns.  I use to drive on average about 40k miles per year in the SF bay area. Most of those mile were put on my 2005 jeep grand Cherokee with the 5.7 hemi.  After I wore the first set of tires out ( in 1 Year ) I put some Goodyear tires on it that were supposed to be good all around tires, It wondered all over the place like a fat woman in a candy store. The tires sucked big time. It wasn't the brand but the design of them.  The same went for my Porsche, originally it had Goodyear tires that were specifically made for that year and rim ( 1988 euro spec 930 ) that no one else manufactured for.  those tires were only good for about 6 to 8 k miles (super soft compound) a few years after having the car another manufacturer made a tire that would fit the car. Bought a set put them on and after about 600 miles took them right off. they were half the price of the Goodyear's and only provided about half the traction. Seeing that you like high speed bursts I go back with a minimum of what came with it. you know already what they will do at high speed .

@@Blaze Mercedes C350 o'10 - I ask too much from this car. I treat her well but when I see a mile long ramp, I turn off ESP, set sport, notch it down to 5 gears from 7 and hubba hubba. Even at 140mph the car feels smooth, and you feel in absolute control. Nothing is shaking or rattling just the pure musical growling and the wind whistling by the side mirrors. On a private road, I timed it to 5.8s but there could be margin of error. The new one I am looking at is C63AMG, that's a track car.

@@Damage_inc-

Thanks for your input it gives me much confidence in my choice. I called the tire shop for DWS and they said the updated design was the SportContact. Haven't had the chance to drive there and get them replace yet.
