I just went on a short vacation to Yosemite with my gf.
It was going to be a 4 hour drive up and down mountains so I offered to check out her car before we headed out onto the road. My miata trunk just wouldn't cut it ;) so we took her Volvo S50 hatchback.

I went to check the oil and the stick was dry.

I grabbed my spare 1L of oil I keep in my trunk and put that in... still dry...

We went to the store and I bought 6L of 5w30 and put 4.5L into that poor car. There was smoke coming out of the dip stick tube as I poured the oil in.
You don't even want to know what she told me when I asked her when she last changed the oil.  I've been face palming ever since.

well... she's had it for a couple years now and she didn't know oil changing was a thing... She only registered and smogged it and has been driving it ever since.

Welcome to the wonderful world of having a significant other. If I didn't have the oil changed on my daughter's and wife's cars, they would do the same thing. About 10 years ago my wife said the Expedition was making some funny noise and when I checked the oil it was over 4 quarts low and she had been ignoring the "idiot" light on the dash. Ever since I've been doing it when needed.

Women shouldn't give automotive advice just like men shouldn't give relationship advice.

Its amazing it didn't seize up.  Then again think how much she saved in oil plus the ecological waste of getting rid of it

Ah pistons just flop back and forth on the rod. I use a ramrod solid and long with a big head. Packs a wad really well. ")

wow.... reminds me of a neighbor back in the 80's. He only added oil to his car and never changed it since day one. I could not believe it.

But not her fault she was not taught aboout cars. That's what parents are suppose to be for... educating your kids so they do less dumb stuff.

Blame her parents... I would. :)

BTW I would clean that car up and sell it. lol

Blame fucking technology hxtr, women hear about "synthetic oil" and think of low maintenance silicone implants, that last for decades :-)

Funny as hell @@eidolonFIRE. I had a girlfriend when I was in college. She went to another school about 100 miles away. One weekend she drove down to see me. I waited and waited for her to show.I was starting to worry a little as she was late. That was very unusual for her.  After a couple of hours she finally called me. (This was before cell ((mobile)) phones kids) She was about 20 miles out side of town and she said her car broke down. I asked what happened and she said that her engine quit working after it made a loud noise and then smoke came out. Well, I got in my car to pick her up. When I arrived I immediately lifted the hood and then asked if she put oil in it. I knew the answer already. She replied proudly that she had just put some oil in before she started her trip. I replied that is great, but next time don't forget to put the oil cap back on! When I lift the hood there was the oil cap sitting right there on top of the engine block where she had put before putting her oil in. The outside of the engine and engine bay was covered in oil LOL!!!!

she never drives very far at a time so it never got a chance to get really hot. I have no idea how long it's been empty.
