If you going to want to overclock... the 4970k can go from 4.0GHZ to 5GHZ and will maintain stability. The 4770K is not a very good cpu to overclock. The MSI board has a button on the board that sets automatically the overclock to I think 4.6GHZ but you can store more overclock settings in the ROM and turn them on and off at will on the fly. Fucking bad ass.

The Video is overclocked already but the card can be overclocked to 1.5ghz and will maintain stability and only reaching 68C with the stock fans.

Here is a chart from the site for Intel CPU's. The extra Threads in the i7 probably won't do you much good but the ability to overclock to 5ghz makes it worth the extra $100 +-.

I myself stay away from AMD *.8. Back when they made 386 cpu'ss... they were king. Now they run way to hot and can't be overclocked as safely as an Intel chip.

For that budget, you can build a bad-ass rig.

The all parts came from Amazon but NewEgg has everything you need.

No need for me to overclock for me  as well until I need to. It will be nice knowing the CPU has room but I'm more about stability, compatibility then performance. I will test and see what it can so.. but I like my power bills to be low.

Good luck and watch some youtube video on builds and hardware you are planning to get. These days it makes learning to build one very easy. I watched one on how to install the water cooler and it gave me some great tips and things to look for before I attempt to install.

Back in the day.. early 80's - 90's... shit you best have friends or access to BBS's for info. :)

I'll leave it to those more knowledgeable than me to speak about the overall performance of this unit; I will say from personal experience that a 250GB SSD would be a better choice...

Only suggestions here.... I would spend the little extra and get the i7 as you can do more overall and someday games will take advantage of the extra threads. But for gaming they are about the same.

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80646I74790K-i7-4790K-Processor-Cache/dp/B00KPRWAX8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1435862877&sr=1-1&keywords=i7+4790k

For the water cooler I got the Dual fan one and you can barely hear it. Keeps my CPU nice and cool.

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Extreme-Performance-Liquid-Cooler/dp/B009ZN2NH6/ref=sr_1_22?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1435862588&sr=1-22&keywords=cpu+cooler+water

Get a board with a Z97 or X97 but the Z87 works. I got this board is I love it... it is so Fing cool. Hands down sexist Motherboard I ever owned. Love the red LED runs in the MB. Never seen that before. My favorite feature is you can see the CPU temp on the Motherboard. Last Picture it say 30c. It has other great features as well.

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Z97A-GAMING-PCI-Express-Motherboard/dp/B00X9ZTDTM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435862821&sr=8-1&keywords=gamer+7+z97+msi

Video card AOK. I love my Windforce... super quiet. Stays nice an cool.

Case AOK.

I would get 2 8GB sticks rater 2 4GB. You max out at 32GB... but not a major deal at all.

Drive is too small.... I would get a regular hard drive for your games and storage and a 256gb SSD like Bart suggested.

Power Supply AOK.

oh and I love how all my wires are hidden behind the motherboard in this case. Makes it look so clean.

Forgive all these useless idiots. The forgot the most important thing! Your tool belt. Oh and don't forget your safety helmet and shoes, glasses and earplugs. Then find a large enough area to put your case footing into.... Damn I guess I was thinking you was BUILDING one from the ground up. Sorry for wasting your time and watch for tbb he will near up on ya from your front side.........
