I am by no means an electrician but probably best thing to do. They arent that much. A bitch to install tho and must be extra extra extra careful that the power and water are off before going near it. Did I say extra careful?

on some disposals there a small reset button on the bottom, and there will also (on some) will be a hole on the bottom center where you can use an allen wrench to rotate the blade in case something jams up inside

Try what @@Hemps said first then if that don't fix it and you already replaced the switch then about the only thing left is to replace the garbage disposal. Changing out a garbage disposal isn't too hard and you are "handy" enough to change a light switch I'm sure you can handle it. Good luck and let us know what happens

Fortunately a disposal is the cheapest appliance in your kitchen and they're fairly easy to replace yourself. Pick a new one up at home depot and you can swap it out in an hour or two.   If you aren't sure how there are probably a hundred how-to videos on youtube.

Also make sure that there isn't a water leak in the wall behind the sink that might be shorting out the socket that the disposal is plugged into. Turn off the breaker and pull the plate off to make sure it's dry in there.

Remove the disposal and never use it again. Garbage is for the trashcan. :)

Good luck Damage..... you can do it!

Nope.. just pipe to the drain. I hate them and food mucks up the drains pipes.

And I have a very fine trap that is easy to dump in the trash.

Funny thing I never have drain problems and it don't stink.

Now if I could just learn to use my hand and not toilet paper I would be set.
