I have experienced 3 Typhoons when in the Coast Guard. We were in a 110' bath tub aka Cutter and largest largest storm we were searching for a Koren fishing ship stuck in the storm. The seas were 32 foot so 64 foot from top to bottom. We dove into the swells. Amazing to see.

I was on engineering watch and went to check on the guys driving our ship. I get up top and I'm standing on the ladder looking out the windows amazing by the seas. I turn to the Captain and ask him, "hey cap.... when are you going to call for help for us?" My captain says, "Hicks get back in the engine room." I pause as I'm looking out the windows and say, "No really cap... when are you going call for help for us?" He raises his voice and says, "HICKS GET BACK IN THE ENGINE ROOM!!!"

I say.. "OK" and head back to the engine room. That storm did damage to our ship. Was and amazing experience and was a adrillin rush I can never forget. Scary moments them two days but I did trusted the crew.. I just did not trust myself.

Hearing about this missing ship brings back these memories. Never would I sail through one ever again.

Yes we found the ship the next day... bobbing in and out of the water and no sign of any of the crew. It was a sad we failed to help them. Job was to rescue.. not fail.

Thank you sir. Would not trade my CG experience for anything. Some great times with a bunch of great people.

I feel bad for the missing cargo ship. WTF did they decide to set sail. Only from Jacksonville Florida to Puerto Rico. They could not wait a day or two. BS a company puts people like this a risk... in the name of money.
