As we reported » last week, a promotional image by GAME Australia seemed to leak details regarding the next map pack for Black Ops. Activision today officially announced the Escalation map pack, confirming that the leak was indeed correct. Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson originally broke the news over on his blog » and it confirmed what we already knew, along with a few other details regarding each map. Although pricing hasn't been confirmed yet, the Escalation pack will drop first on Xbox LIVE Tuesday May 3rd for a fee likely to be 1200 Microsoft Points. Based on previous map packs, Playstation 3 and PC users will likely get their hands on it a month later. Check out a list and brief details of the four multiplayer maps and the new Zombie level below. Hotel is set on the roof of a Cuban luxury hotel and casino against the vivid backdrop of old Havana Convoy is a close-quarters combat map set at the scene of an ambushed US military convoy Zoo is set in an abandoned Soviet Russian Zoo with danger at every turn Stockpile is set in a remote Russian farm town housing secret WMD facilities The new Zombie level is titled Call of the Dead and remains classified as always. A unique experience along with all-new playable characters has been promised [update] - Activision has just sent out the official press release » in full, confirming that the Zombie map is indeed called "Call of the Dead". Also in the press release was some words from Treyarch's Mark Lamia and details on a Double XP weekend that will arrive soon after the map pack release. Lamia mentions how all of the multiplayer maps were developed "to be distinct experiences in their own right, giving players the variety they crave in both setting and gameplay", while also promising that there will be surprises for Zombie fans with Call of the Dead taking it to a "whole new level".
