hi guys, i am hoping someone can point my pc in the right direction.

i am getting a blue screen up when booting my pc, which tells me it is dumping physical memory to disk , counting up to 100, along with system registry, and that also there is registry error c000218, and system root software message, is not there or is corrupted.

it says windows failed to start, wwhen i get the windows recovery screen where you have several boot options, and i have tried safe mode and lastknown good config, they don't help, and I also closed pc down inserted windows disk, but there are not options popping up?

i hope you guys and gals can help me, it would be appreciated, as a blackberry playbook is not a replacement lol

Hey Heff,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Since I do this most of the day I have some suggestions based on general assumptions.

Assuming you want to keep/retrieve data on the drive: Dont write to it!@ I would buy another hard drive, which are cheap now, and restore your PC from scratch on this new disk. Once its up and running you can connect the old drive to see whats retrievable. Im not sure what your specific problem is since it could be many things.... bad driver (have you updated anything recently?) bad memory, failed or failing HD, INFECTION, etc...

Its best to analyse the blue screens with WinDBG to see whats causing them. You have to either get Windows working on it again or use the scenario above with the new drive. If you're like me and dont have much hair left to pull out, I would go with that. lol

Good Luck!

You also might try a repair reinstall of Windows 7 from the boot disk. Search Google for howto. This does not put current data at risk and has worked for me previously.

c/p

The C000218 error is a registry error that may prevent your Windows XP operating system from working correctly. In some cases, it causes the blue screen error message (also known as the Blue Screen of Death) to appear, preventing the operating system from working at all. Under normal circumstances, you'll need to have a professional fix your computer, but there is one method you can try before taking that step. It involves running the Recovery Console and using "chkdsk" to attempt to repair the damaged sectors.

Type "chkdsk C: /R" in the Command Prompt, and hit the "Enter" key.

Whenever you get a blue screen it's important to note the offending file shown. It's usually .sys or .dll file listed as the problem. It really helps in the diagnoses of the problem.

Now windows is installed on my pc on new hard drive, and I can see the files on the older drive and would like to transfer the old files across to the new drive, is this recomended?, and can anyone recommend a good free data migration tool?

Or, should I just leave on the old drive the existing files?
