A few years from now some will be asking the same question about Windows 8 and 10. This is how a monopoly forces you to buy new products, kind of like what Apple does to their users every 2-3 years on phones, tablets and computers.

I have the disk for service 2 and a disk for service pack 3. Ordered them from Microsoft a long time ago. I could mail you copies or try to make iso's and put them in my drop box. If you want send me a PM as to the way you want to go with that...

My old laptop has Windows ME on it.I tried to put XP on it but it's just to slow to run it.I think it may be time to install Linux on it or retire it lol.

If you can put at-least 1 gig of memory in it you can run Win 7 32 bit

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) processor
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

My media center PC that I have hooked to my TV has an old Intel P4 1.5ghz cpu and 2 gig of memory and it works good with Win 7 32 bit.I use it to DL "Movies" for late night entertainment.lol

If it has a crappy Intel Celeron or an AMD Duron or low end Sempron cpu don't install Win 7 on it.The fsb and cache speed are just to slow.

Give us some Specs of the PC in question if you want to update to Win 7.I can get you some "wares" lol.

That's not true. I admin about 50 XP computers at work and all of them are fully updated. MS is continuing to support and patch XP until sometime in 2014.

For the OP, you ONLY need to install XP SP3. All of the SP1/2 updates are included in SP3. Did you active your copy of Windows? The problems you're having are usually because: 1) you have not activated your copy 2) you need to have at least SP3 installed and 3) you need to have IE8 installed. The first thing you need to do is install SP3 and then IE8. After that the patching goes without a hitch. I do it all the time.

Absolutely correct. Though then patch to IE9 as 8 sucks ass. What am I saying fuck IE altogether and get FF.
