Very cool and a wonderful use of new technology. Its just like a mini CNC mill (4 axis). Have to research these things. I know "machine code" from my days as a CNC programmer/operator in my youth. Spent 12 years doing that shit. Hope they use that language and interface with AutoCad. I just saw on MSN where somone made a 3D printed gun !!! Way cool stuff !!! The MakerBot while lacking in max. height of an item (only a little over 6") is the most cost effective. But if your home made setup works and is comparable in operating cost and work area, then that may be the best bet. Are you documenting the build ? I just measured and my working area will be something like 10"W - 12"L -12"H I will prolly document it enough to make a couple sweet blog posts but as far as repeating the build... wouldn't be worth the trouble. Its a campain on Kickstarter and it will end tomorrow. after they got all the money from kickstarter they order al the parts and send them out to the folks. expected delivery date is in september/october so i still have to wait a little. the rigidbot has much better specs than the makerbot or any other printer right now. the one i buyed can print pieces up to 10"x10"x10" (25,4cm x 25.4cm x 25.4cm) with a minimum layerhight of 0.1mm (0.00393700787inches ) I paid including the shipping and the upgraded LCD and USB-Port ~500€ (~650$). If someone wants a good 3d printer and can wait a little u can should buy a Rigidbot too. The prototype is only supposed to fire a few shots before replacing the barrel with a new one. But that really doesn't matter because it effectively costs $0.50 to replace it once you have the printer. The point really is just that it WORKS and really fires a bullet.
