My Dad was a fighter and beat cancer once, but this time it over took his body. My family and I were around his bed, I held his hand in mine and we all told him how much we loved him and how we were blessed to have him as a husband, a Dad and Grandfather. We let my Dad know that he had completed his task of being the man God had sent him here to be. Then we all said we love you, and said your are free to go be with the Lord, and about a minute later he breathed his last breath and left this world in peace, He just went to sleep. I felt his grip loosen in my hand, and new he was gone. I am so very thankful for the 55 years he gave me as my dad. The lose is great, and the pain is overwhelming, I know it time things will be better. I thank you all for the prayers and thoughts, and pray God blesses you all with his peace!!! I am so sad for your loss but also wonder at the way the Almighty puts those of us who are suffering similarly in touch. Through you I gain comfort for my own loss and through me, I trust and pray, you find comfort in yours. We are not alone in this. I've cried so much tonight remembering how I walked away, seven years ago, from the hospital, knowing I would never see my mother alive again. She was lapsing in and out of consciousness and all I could do was to hold her hand and kiss her on the brow, saying goodbye. Every year, on the anniversary, it hurts, of course, and I perform a ritual of remembrance. She liked a drop of whisky so I fill a glass and drink to her memory. I shall drink to the life, love and memory of your dearly departed father also, tonight, and we shall certainly all meet in a better place eventually. God Bless You and Keep You, dear friend!
