We are ranked 86th Joe, so we wouldn't make it..hahahahaha

It would be nice to see England to show up for a World Cup.... 1966 has been long enough.

World cups in South America, winner in brackets:

Uruguay 1930  (Uruguay)

Brazil 1950  (Uruguay)

Chile 1962 (Brazil)

Argentina 1978 (Argentina)

World cups in Mexico (which is, give me a break, part of the Americas, no such thing  as "southern" or "northern" Europe, right? )

Mexico 1970  (Brazil)

Mexico 1986 (Argentina)

Now, with all due respect to all those "Spain fans"... Spanish (from Spain) soccer is horrible.  I know, they won the 2010 cup but  that was a fluke, wasn't it Pete ? lol

Ok i forgot about Uruguay in 1930, only 13 teams took part in the 1930 world cup of those only 4 were European teams, France,Belgium Yugoslavia and Romania, last i checked Mexico was not part of South America and that is what we are talking about, in American schools they are taught that North America and South America are different continents so we are only talking about 1 of  "The Americas" which is a seperate  continent, pretty sure Europe has a North and South, Northern Europe try Scandanavia and Iceland, Southern Europe try Spain Portugal Greece and even parts of Turkey are in Europe, Northern Europe cold wet and grey most of the year Southern Europe warm and sunny most of the year, there is a considerable mileage from the top of the north to the bottom of the south, no the North to South might not stretch as far as South America but lets go East to West, last time i checked Russia was in Europe?, (fuck it's turning into a Geography lesson lol) Yes it is very hard for European teams to win in South America, especially here in Brazil where the temperatures will be much higher than most Europeans players are used to with humidity being the biggest problem especially where England have to play their forst match in the Jungle in Manaus  but it has not stopped European teams from reaching finals before only to be beaten by pretty good teams anyway wherever they came from,  a European team has won the trophy outside Europe, Spain last world cup in South Africa, Spain were useless there and did not deserve to win last world cup and that Spanish football is horrible?....oops you tripped over on that one i think lol

Don't take me too seriously Sono :-)   You are right. I went to school in both, South and North America, and there are some funny differences in the way they teach things. In South America you learn that "America" is a continent that is divided in three: South, Central and North America. In Spanish the word "American" or "Americano"  is not a Starbucks drink, but rather the equivalent to 'European". If you are born in the continent of America, you are an "American" by definition regardless of the region you are from.

When I went to University here in Canada, I had a major argument with an (American) Pol Science teacher who was livid at me because I told him that he was as American as any guy from Chihuahua Mexico, Machali Chile, or Muy Muy Nicaragua.  That argument didn't end well for me because he said that there were only two "Americas", North and South but he would not tell me where Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, etc were located provided that in English,  "America Central" or Central America does not exist for "teaching purposes".

I am not sure why Manaos was chosen as a host city. Really F UP idea. Manaos is the equivalent to Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada: Same heat, same humidity, same deadly mosquitoes plus giant snakes all over the place and drug-addicted, knife wielding thieves :-)

Good luck!! lol

The biggest challenge for Canada is not winning the world cup, which should be a piece of cake, but qualifying to a world cup.  We are currently 110th in the world, so Pete's idea of an expansion to 85 teams might not quite work, yet  lol

Yup it seems all the world has different ideas about how many continents there are, some say 6 some say 5, some even say Greenland is a continent, as for Manaus it will take England 8 hours to actually fly there for the game, big country lol, England players are having to take malaria tablets which could make some of them ill, probably just what Blatter and his corrupt FIFA  cohorts had in mind, as you can see us English do not trust anything that Blatter or FIFA  does even more so after they gave the 2022 world cup to Qatar, they will cover their backs today when their investigation into corruption comes out, they will say there is no proof, they are totally ignoring proof that English newspapers have gathered after a long investigation, over £5 million was paid out to corrupt FIFA  officials to hand the world cup to a country that has 1 football stadium with top crowds of around 4,000 and oh yes it is too hot to play football there even in indoor stadiums with air conditioning on, of course FIFA  didn't realize that and now talking about playing the world cup in winter, i see yesterday that EUFA officials are starting to turn on Blatter, they are even calling FIFA  corrupt (this came from the Dutch official yesterday) i really hope EUFA  boycott this world cup, Europe has 53 teams i think, let them run a world cup without us see how that goes, the European Championship is a better tournament anyway because with only 16 teams in it there are no also rans so all games are very hard, we should run a tournament against FIFA and maybe we can get rid of all the corrupt people running it......oooo i ranted a bit there lol but there is real resentment  in the UK and now it seems Europe too about this.

Cimon you already missed it m8, Canada qualified for the 1986 world cup finals in Mexico, they were in a group with The Soviet Union France and Hungary, the results were

June 1st 1986 Canada 0 France 1

June 6th 1986 Canada 0 Hungary 2

June 9th 1986 Canada 0 Soviet Union 2

So as you can see you were very consistent managing to get 0 every game lol, only 2 points for a win in those days.

                                 Pld W  D  L G/F G/A  Pts

Soviet Union             3     2  1    0   9     1     5
