The first image was taken at ISO800 and 1/80th a second shutter, and is close to what the eye saw at 7:40AM this morning. The second one is auto settings, with flash in an attempt to capture the snowflakes. It's going to be like this here all day in and near London Ontario, Canada. Strong winds will give blizzard conditions. I'll be working from home today.

I 'liked' the post but I don't like it.  The drive to work this morning sucked.

Fly me to the Moon...A cropped and contrast-enhanced shot I took hand-held with a zoom lens at 250mm./ I wish I had thought to set the camera to take RAW images at that time. From earlier this past summer. Not great quality, but it was fun to take.

I like to take raw+jpeg. Then I'll throw out the raws later if the pic is not great. (save on space, jpegs are tiny to keep around but my raws are 25mb)

Also, I'll do mild color balancing pretty much all the pics I share to anyone. My goal is to make it look best without it looking like an instagram filter lol.

oh, and it's too bad that jet wasn't leaving massive condensation trails, that would've been cool.

Thanks! It's one of 2 regular afternoon flights of Dash-8 turboprops. Too low and too slow for contrails.

This is one of those pics where I wish I would have snapped more than one.... it's motion blurry but would have been great if it was sharp. Or maybe I should just carry a tripod with me everywhere, lol.

Nope, cruising at altitude. It may look like it's climbing because of the angle that the camera was held.

I can't quite tell what pier you are on but I recognize the ferry terminal on the far left and of course the Embarcadero centers with their holiday lights on.

There actually are very small tripods that can fold up and fit in a pocket and they work great for smaller cameras. I have a couple of them around here somewhere. Makes a huge difference when you're taking a longer exposure like you did above.

If you and your girlfriend ever find yourselves down near the financial district, go over to Sansome Street and California St. to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, walk through the lobby and take the elevator to the top floor. It's a twin tower hotel with a glass walkway betweent the towers. As I recall the top floor is about 54 stories and the view is unlike anything you'll find in San Francisco. Panoramic views from the Golden Gate bridge to the Oakland Bay bridge, and in back of you all points south. It's one of two five star hotels in SF and there is a restaurant and lounge if you're in the mood. There is no security to get on the elevator although I'm sure people will be watching you on CCTV.

Are you using an SLR, compact digital or cell phone? I have a couple miniature tripods that literally fit in my coat pocket. You attach the camera and put it on a table or even the ground for a nice still shot.

Something like this works if your camera is small.
