Even at a XI fest it's possible to take some cool pics.Of course most of the models are super ugly so you will need to be realy lucky and a lot of patience but it's possible

You really don't want to see the spider that built this. Or do you? If not, don't look at the inset. It's a bit blurry because I really didn't want to get that close and it was dark out. He (she?) hides away in the heat of the day, but as this is very near my front door and its porch light, there's no shortage of moths, etc., for it to eat at night. But the web itself is rather magnificent, right? And last night, I actually did try to get a better picture of him. I had to go out the garage and up my porch steps to get into position. At that point he decided he really didn't want his picture taken, so he literally lept off the web, bungee jumping to the ground. Freaked me out. I left.

Lake Ainslie, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia (Canada). My dad passed away recently, and I took my camera with me on a drive around the lake one morning while I was home. I find the process of finding and taking an image to be very focusing and calming. The incredible beauty of this region only adds to the calming effect.

Yesterday evening, a package arrived in the mail from my brother. Out of the blue, he sent me a Rokinon (Samyang) 10mm f2.8-f22 camera lens. It's designed for APS-C based  DSLR cameras. I took a few test shots of the area of the sky that I normally shoot to capture lightning, and the amount of sky captured vs. my 18mm lens is HUGE! This lens will be incredible for landscapes, lightning, and interior shots.  Here's an image I found in a review that shows the area it can cover as compared to other lenses. My 18mm lens had been my go-to for landscapes until this beastie landed on my doorstep. This one will be more challenging as it's a manual lens (vs my Canon lenses which connect into the camera's electronics), but the results and challenge will be worth it.

Thanks @@Hunter! The lake is just off route 19 via a side-road maybe 10km outside the town. I have more shots to process that I'll post over time.

I've got this one: http://www.amazon.com/Rokinon-Fisheye-E-Mount-Cameras-RK8MBK28-E/dp/B00JD4TA7I/ref=sr_1_4?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1443855831&sr=1-4&keywords=rokinon+8mm

8mm fish eye by same company.

I've posted several shots here that I took with it. It's super sharp! I love this lens.

I was in Sacramento for the day and I decided to go down to the river to mess around with my camera...

I don't really know anything about taking nature shots... so I figured I'd experiment.

I recently bought a telephoto Lens from  a friend, a full-frame Tamron 28-200mm. On my camera's APS-C sensor, it becomes a roughly 45-320mm lens. It's not image-stabilized, so I set it up on my sturdy tripod and tried my first attempt at photographing the moon with it. After a bit of experimentation, I settled on 320mm, ISO-100, f8, 1-250th of a second exposure, and manual focusing. Just a fraction of a hair off from the Infinity mark gave the best focus. Here's the shot, cropped to enlarge the moon. No sharpening was done to it in post-processing:

I would love to see the full res of this. I also have an APS-c and I've been curious how much of the moon I could get with a 200mm.

I'm trying to recall how to attach a file vs embedding it. Once I figure it out (or you tell me), I can attach.
