My first night-time test shot with my new-to-me Canon 6D, a camera that's very highly recommended for night-sky imaging. It was a 25 second shot at ISO 2500 with a 14mm lens at f/2.8. I can't wait to take it to a really dark area near Lake Erie next new moon. A 5D Mark IV will be my next camera, maybe later this year.

Mrs. Smeg and I spent last week in California (San Francisco, Monterey and Yosemite).

Snagged these off the camera using my phone.  Still haven't had time to post process / edit them.

Yosemite and Monterey are absolutely STUNNING!

You can keep San Francisco, though.

Most of these were taken with a Canon 5D Mark IV and Canon EF 16-35 f/4L USM III

There were a lot of them around here this year, which happens every few years. Here's an obliging one that sat on top of a utility pole at sunrise in January for the hour that I watched it:

Beautiful shots! I have the f2.8 version of the 16-35mm. The f/4 is a tad sharper, but the f/2.8 was a gift. I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth!

I am really loving the MK III version of the 16-35 f/2.8L USM.  It's exceptionally sharp.  My only complaint is the amount of distortion around the edges.  Lightroom just doesn't do a great job of correcting that.  It's horrible if you're using it for portraits, so I just remember to zoom in to at least 20mm or more to reduce the distortion.  I have wasted some good group shots because people have 'coneheads' because of the distortion.

Was playing around with active track on my Mavic Pro drone.  First time I tried it, over water nonetheless....I was really worried about it going splash.

Sorry I had to use a link, I wasn't able to upload it to the website.

I'll post more (hopefully much better) the next time I have the balls to fly it from my boat again.

Freezing my ass off at Conowingo Dam on Friday morning while photographing Bald Eagles.  The trip was a bust, it was even too cold for the birds!

Equipment is:  Canon 5D Mark IV with Canon EF 500 f/4L USM IS and 1.4x Mark III teleconverter mounted on Wimberley WH-200.

Chile welcome to the club!

There is no real answer for your question.  If you want the camera to do everything for you (shutter speed, aperture and ISO) then leave it on automatic.

To me this defeats the purpose of having a DSLR....might as well have a point-n-shoot.

Here is a little guide that will help you understand aperture, shutter speed and ISO....the three main parts of getting a quality image.

Hey there! I was just browsing through the site and I got super excited to see there's other photographers here! I've been doing photography for about 5 years now, 2 years professionally.  I am currently using the Canon 80D, along with a small variety of lenses.  I specialize in portraiture and have recently jumped into the wedding game. I also do something a little different, I do a little urban exploration in my free time. I'll share a few of those photos! :)IMG_4861.thumb.jpg.4bc3fb2881a5b9fd7217e164006e9d81.jpgIMG_9329.thumb.jpg.db3ae2c5dd09b43e4a3825ba5bf2a01b.jpgIMG_5183.thumb.jpg.f187ebb2a16d48cf139af8161e27bbf5.jpgIMG_5271.thumb.jpg.1ae5e950950c326e52a66d8ffe9ef654.jpgIMG_3867.thumb.jpg.317487272d982bc852902364efdce292.jpgIMG_4253.thumb.jpg.79421c0e6792a1ae4dec1f71f2e2633f.jpgIMG_9290.thumb.jpg.1e7bce921ee1bc211e3b179bd90aebdd.jpgIMG_0508-2.thumb.jpg.53a613b60d50fee91969a73b9e5d5edc.jpgIMG_9290.thumb.jpg.1e7bce921ee1bc211e3b179bd90aebdd.jpgIMG_4088.thumb.jpg.30f3af53dec535d298a9298d854edaf4.jpg

I've been doing photography for about 5 years now, 2 years professionally.  I am currently using the Canon 80D, along with a small variety of lenses.  I specialize in portraiture and have recently jumped into the wedding game. I also do something a little different, I do a little urban exploration in my free time. I'll share a few of those photos! :)IMG_4861.thumb.jpg.4bc3fb2881a5b9fd7217e164006e9d81.jpgIMG_9329.thumb.jpg.db3ae2c5dd09b43e4a3825ba5bf2a01b.jpgIMG_5183.thumb.jpg.f187ebb2a16d48cf139af8161e27bbf5.jpgIMG_5271.thumb.jpg.1ae5e950950c326e52a66d8ffe9ef654.jpgIMG_3867.thumb.jpg.317487272d982bc852902364efdce292.jpgIMG_4253.thumb.jpg.79421c0e6792a1ae4dec1f71f2e2633f.jpgIMG_9290.thumb.jpg.1e7bce921ee1bc211e3b179bd90aebdd.jpgIMG_0508-2.thumb.jpg.53a613b60d50fee91969a73b9e5d5edc.jpgIMG_9290.thumb.jpg.1e7bce921ee1bc211e3b179bd90aebdd.jpgIMG_4088.thumb.jpg.30f3af53dec535d298a9298d854edaf4.jpg

Love these! Thanks for sharing! You have a great eye.

I haven't posted in a while myself. I'll add a number of pictures over the next few days.

I am so tempted to go with the Sony a7R III for my next body.  I have a huge investment in Canon L glass and would have to use an adapter.  I have heard mixed reviews about this combination (focus accuracy, focus speed).  But one thing is for sure, the sensor in the a7 III and a7R III are incredible....what to do.....what to do....    :)
