I am so tempted to go with the Sony a7R III for my next body.  I have a huge investment in Canon L glass and would have to use an adapter.  I have heard mixed reviews about this combination (focus accuracy, focus speed).  But one thing is for sure, the sensor in the a7 III and a7R III are incredible....what to do.....what to do....    :)

Me too. I did get two sigma lens 50-1.4 and 105-600 contemporary. canon mount. 50 works as good as sony lens. 24-70 2.8 L canon works well in fair lighting. Have not tested  my 70-200 2.8 L or 100 2.8 L macro.

Let me know what you think with the 70-200 2.8.  That is one of my primary lenses.  I also have a 500 f/4 (and 1.4x teleconverter) I'd like to do some research on with it.

I had the 1.4x and the 2x I thought the pictures were sharper cropped without the converters. the 70-200 L is a great lens stays on my 6d mark 2 Next two days will test it out on the sony. Might be worth renting a a7r 3 to see if you want to drop the coin.I also read the the a73 works better with canon glass than the a7r 3 the only thing I miss on the a73 is no double + exposer I have with the 6d 2. The a7r 3 and the a7  3 Have a 1.5x crop setting in the camera

Yosemite National Park "Tunnel View" and a shot of my Canon obsession.....

I took the picture of Tunnel View with a Canon 5D Mark IV with Canon EF 16-35 f/2.8L USM III

I picked up a new Canon EOS R Mirrorless and RF 24-105 f/4L USM IS kit.  It came with the RF to EF lens adapter.

Wife and I are headed to Yellowstone National Park next week and I am lugging as much gear with me as I possibly can.  :)

Some photos I took in Yellowstone National Park and Grand Tetons National Park a couple of weeks ago.  The majority were taken with my new Canon EOS R body with Canon RF24-105 f/4L USM IS and Canon EF 500 f/4L USM IS (and 1.4x III teleconverter).  I believe the only one that was not taken with the EOS R was the Prong Horn Antelope which was taken with my Canon 5D Mark IV and Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L USM IS.

So I bit the bullet and sold off my Canon 5D Mark II and 5D Mark IV.  I kept my 5D Mark III (My wife's favorite).  And I still have the EOS R which I love.

I will either buy the EOS R5 (most likely) or considering the EOS R6 for it's low light capabilities.  Definitely leaning towards the R5 because of the better EVF, larger screen, wifi, 8K video (not that I really care about that) and the higher megapixel.

But it appears Canon cannot keep up with the backlog of orders......

Sooo much equipment out there.  Just getting into some stuff for my nascent photography/videography habit;  I mean hobby.  Even bought a Osmo Mobile 3 Gimbal which can connect to my phone via bluetooth;  not a bad rig for $~120.00...My luck, they came out with the 3rd iteration 2 weeks later.  The two things into which I'm looking are a nice action cam.  Obvious first choice would be a GoPro Hero Black.  But there's a plethora of highly-rated action cams to be seen just looking on Amazon.  And thousands of 4.5 star reviews...and they're considerably what is seemingly a much greater value.  Instead of $200 - $500, they're like $60-$150 for what appears to be a feature rich piece of equipment.  Also considering an infrared led light panel for night filming.  Then of course there are different lenses & filters & familiarizing myself with fstop and all that jazz.

Could you please take a moment to edify on any wisdom you'd be so kind as to impart.  Recommend equipment and such.  I have a few tripods, an extendable monopod that came with the gimbal, and a couple digital action cameras.  One is, despite being relatively old (Kodak Zi8), a decent performer.  It does 1080p60fps, has a jack for a mic (considering getting a wireless mic for it) and few other nice features.  Nonetheless, I'm spend at least a few hundred to get a nice, basic setup.

I have a gopro hero black 7 and like it.  May sell and upgrade after the new one comes out.  Got a gimbal but it was super fragile and returned before 30 days was up, but really liked it.  Didn't like that it wasn't fully waterproof.  Got a bunch of video with dog that I need to edit.

I've also read that EIS has become so good that a gimbal isn't necessarily needed i.e. Gopro Hero late iterations.  Watched a youtube review comaparing & contrasting the performance of the EIS on the Hero Black with that of an actual gimbal;  granted the guy didn't go through a comprehensive testing, but he walked around, jogged, jumped etc., & placed the resultant footage side by of the parallel filming to elaborate his opinion;  which was it was sufficient (the EIS) to use that solely, sans gimbal.  Actually, I think it was an Osmo Pocket cam which has integrated gimbal &  EIS;  but the gist is the same from other readings:  EIS has pretty much arrived for solely image stabilization.  The gimbal (Osmo Mobile 3) does have nice features like panning, object tracking, time lapse, hyper lapse that, paired with the MIMO app, give a decent working sandbox for on-the-go editing processing & sharing along with several other nice features.

I also have the Hero 7 black and it's a work horse and has so many built in capabilities.  I use my son's Hero 7 silver as a backup but it is limited in what it can do.

The stabilization in the Hero 7 Black is out of this world!

Had the day off yesterday and decided to go on a BIF (Bird In Flight) expedition for the day.  I thought, there is no better place to do BIF photography, than Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna river that borders Maryland and Pennsylvania.

This time of year, Conowingo is home to the largest population of migrating Bald Eagles east of the Mississippi river.   It's not unusual to see several hundred of them.

I recently bought the Canon EOS R6 full-frame mirrorless body and wanted to test it out with my Canon EF 500 f/4L USM IS lens and 1.4x III teleconverter (700mm effective focal length).

The focus on the EOS R6 has 'eyeball' tracking setting for animals and people, so I wanted to put it (and the 20 frames per second) to the test.

I am extremely impressed with the capabilities of this camera.  I would usually only walk away with maybe 1/3 of my images being keepers (with my Canon 5D Mark IV)...to over 80% being keepers with the R6.  I must confess that even with a wimberly, my skills at BIF acquisition with a long lens and panning need honing.  But I will get there.

All in all I am pleased with the camera and the shots I grabbed yesterday.

If you're in the area of MD/PA/VA and are into bird photography, you really should go checkout Conowingo Dam.  Just get there early because the place fills up quick!
