Replacement of Xfire

X-Ray brought up a good point, you guys want a suitable replacement that is very similar to Xfire. XI probably wants a replacement that 100% of membership will use, rather then 40% Steam, 30% Origin, and 30% haters of Steam/Origin. Some member might not use Origin or Steam due not needing it for some games.

 

Raptr = search games, add friends, group text chat?, add games to favorites?

Evolve = search games, add friends, group text chat?, add games to favorites?

HLSW = search games, add games to favorites, group text chat?, add friends?

 

Find out the better of the three?

I would not use Raptr, it installs itself if you don't uncheck it when you update your AMD drivers, don't like it at all, Xfire was pretty good for what we wanted, is there anything out there remotely like Xfire?

If we can't have Steam then we can't have Origin either, there are more games running from Steam than Origin surely.

 

 

Moreover, there are some reports (real or unsubstantiated, idk) that unpredictable behavior, like game crashes, occur when both Steam and Origin clients are running at the same time.

But TS is a voice chat system.  And it's room-based, not user-based.  You have to go to the room where someone is, and maybe they are playing a game where the players are using TS as the main game audio chat, so you're disrupting a game to talk to someone.  Or they may be sitting in an admin room that you don't have access too, and so are effectively unreachable even though they are right there.  Maybe you can "poke" someone who's sitting in a room you don't have access to, idk,  But "poking" is known to kick some games back to the desktop, maybe even crashing them.

 

TS's text chat capabilities seem only as an afterthought, or at best, as a way to send supportive information - like a website link - into what is primarily a voice chat.

xfire, or raptr or evolve i can login all day and night without getting annoyed and i can be contacted at any time, that is what we need, not just something we can go in to chat when we play. but a place any members can contact an admin if there is a problem. Xfire was mostly used for this.

if we replace this by TS, i doubt it will work.

raptr give me all kind of weird stuffs, like it change my status randomly.

the notification windows are uggly as hell, unlike evolve

well my PC was fast a boot till I put Evolve on it.. It is a no go for me.

Razer has a mobile app as well. Razer it is for me

I get that you want to go with raptr, and I get what you're saying about its chat interface looking "cleaner" than the others. But you're completely discounting that there's a whole other part/interface to raptr - the part that has the video stuff, the game optimization stuff, the game library stuff, and all the AMD-centric driver stuff. It's overall cleanness factor is therefore dirty as sin. Evolve may have a game ad at the bottom, and I sure as hell don't like that, but that screen is pretty much it. None of the other stuff. So it, relatively speaking, is squeaky clean.

 

btw, I'm not voting for raptr with these comments.  I'm still thinking a more universally adopted chat service, like Skype makes the most sense.  But - alas - there are those who are venomously opposed to that, too.  idk.  Not really sure where this is going...

x-fire isn't going away, it's already gone, lol.  Kaput.  Dead.

 

TS is a voice chat system, but we need a text chat system so people can get a hold of admins (as one of the primary uses) when they are on-line, but not in-game.

We Also need one that will Support Everyone in the Community.We need to get something setup pretty fast that will support Every game whether it's on Origin or Steam or COD2/4/5 ect ect. And Evolve does that.

 

 

You can move the Evolve app around anywhere you want,Click between the Help and Friends tabs and drag it around.You can also make it bigger and smaller window if you want just Highlight one of the corners and pull down and out.

 

Evolve uses about 25mb of memory so that's not a problem.Evolve has Game tracking and Full Community support for Clans and Gaming Communities.You can do Voice chat with it if need be and Group chat and PMs and each member has they're own profile with updateable Wall like facebook or whatever.

 

 

I think that once we get a Community set up on Evolve that it will work out very well.It's kinda hard to judge it without having Some experience with it.

 

 

I HATE Razer software BTW.Always have and always will.So I'm quite BIAS in this decision.

 

 

 

Steam and Origin will not serve Everyone as Everyone Does Not use them.I only use Steam occasionally and I never use Origin even though I made the mistake of buying a couple EA games on it that I never play.

 

 

 

If you don't like the adds at the bottom for the Free games block them in your firewall.They are there to help pay for there servers and services.

 

 

 

 

Overwolf is complete garbage IMO.It's a Plugin for TeamSpeak btw.

And how do get rid of the all there advertisement , Can't seem to find a way to Change how display name either... And all those things you don't like about raptr,, evolve has and more ..The only thing is the AMD driver update  and I'm not sure how that's going to work . but I'm sure it's going to ask before updating...And again it's huge...especially with the advertisement...

 

But maybe a few of you can show how to correct the problems , size. name change, advertisement and voice chat,

 

Now I know Raptr doesn't have voice chat either , But at least for text chat program it's small..

Oh just on a side note I prefer Steam ..But understand it doesn't support all the games we play ..

Just a side note,

XFire always had the advertisements in the top, maybe you were used too it, but it was displayed there too. As for Evolve, it shows below in your friends menu.

 

If I check preferences -> features: I see that my "voice" status is enabled via parties. I don't have friends or parties yet, but we have TS and I hardly used Mic in XFire in the past. Maybe once every 6 months,but I don't see a problem with that. And got some of my friends on my Skype already if I want to have a private talk. 

 

If you check Preferences, there is a lot in there and you can use Twitch too, but OSB is more my thing if I want to stream in the future.

If you go to Preferences -> Accounts, you can hook Steam inside of Evolve or even Raptr, LMAO.

 

Overall, Evolve is the winner for me, but only sad that you can't add a Nickname to it or change it.

yes it some advertisement , But at least you could resize it, ... Look my biggest complaint is the size of it ,And you can't change the nickname... They all have lot of crap hidden in them .. No iOS support

Well, I've finally voted.  I voted Evolve. 

 

Now that I can see the results, I'm surprised that TeamSpeak is winning because I really don't see it as a strong text chat client.  And "poking" someone to get their attention may cause a kick from whatever game they are playing.

I really think options like Skype and Hangouts should be added to this list.  They are more general use in nature and do not have all the game overlay stuff that often just messes with your game.  I'm also concerned at all the system resources some of these programs like raptr and overwolf tap into.  They create a game library, look over your graphics card, want to optimize your games (probably badly) and set up video buffers for instant recording, phone home with all these results...  Who really wants all that?

 

I'm not sure what it is that people are expecting from a text chat client.  I think we really only need a way to contact people who are at their computer, but not in game.  All this other stuff just seems like massive overkill to me.

 

I know Skype allows you to group contacts.  Not sure about Hangouts.  They both are cross-platform, too.  Install them on your phone if you got a smart one. 

 

If I had to choose from the current list only, I guess I'd have to say Steam since most of us already have it and it is already required of many of the games we play.

I am relatively ignorant to most of these but is there some way we can compare what they have side by side both good and bad?
