I've been looking for a new wireless router and all sites pick different routers as the best one to get, I think they are just paid off from the manufacturer. So I come to you, the smartest idiots I know, to point me in the correct direction.

We have 3 smart phones in the house, 1 Ipad, 1 xbox and a smart tv. We stream netflix to the smart tv and the xbox. I don't do any big file transfers over wifi.

Thank you

try this one http://us.dlink.com/products/connect/gaming-router-ac1300-with-streamboost-technology-dgl-5500/

it does a good job but still will not help with server IC's and Lag but can be setup to give the game what it needs first!

You're right in that they're all about the same. PC mag recommends these for gamers:  http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2453132,00.asp

(Though that info's a year old)

Whats your budget?

From a brand standpoint, I recommend Netgear. Specs wise, go for multi-stream dual band with beam forming technology. Again it comes down to your budget. You can have dual 5G radios with a 2G radio so a tri-band router but IMO while it future proofs you for up to 3 years it may be more than what you need right now.

Also, look for 802.11ac - don't buy the old a/b/g/n only routers, they should be extinct by now.

Edit:

From what I can tell this is top of the line at the moment: http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-AC3200-Tri-Band-Router-DIR-890L/dp/B00PVD81MK

Asus is where it's at.  Trust me I can Science.  But really Asus has some great routers.  I have Three phones, three tablets Two desktops hooked up through ethernet, one through wifi also using an asus wireless card and one laptop. Oh and a chromecast as well.  But the only things that are usually running are my desktop a laptop the phones and usually one or two of the tablets and the chromecast.  With only 30Mbps as well.  My computer is the only one that uses the 5Ghz channels for less interference though.  But stay away from TP-Link and Tenda though they're cheaply made but not saying all they're products are shoddy.

I've had this router for about two year.  Runs a bit on the warmer side but hasn't failed me yet.

I've had to replace Asus, Linksys and others with these:

http://www.apple.com/airport-extreme/

It plays the best with all of your iDevices.

My suggestion. They are great and powerful and can handle the load.
