My computer crashed today, first time ever. Just froze up completely and had to force shut down and restart.

Now when it restarts i get a windows pop up saying windows has detected a hard disk error.

So i ran speccy and this is what ive found:

Is my hard drive on the brink of going bad or is there a way to fix this?

Yup whenever smart says bad better safe than sorry. After installing a new drive and saving your files you could try reformatting but I doubt it would fix this kind of problem since I think it suggests mechanical. If you used it many hours every day, with 301 days poweron time maybe its still under warranty. But even then it might be better to keep it if you cant wipe it.

I had one that did that and I backup the files, formatted it and it lasted about a month before the same problem popped back up.

Might be time for a new drive...good luck.

My OS is on a separate drive which is good. BUT this particular drive has a partition on it containing 301mb's of "System Reserve" Now im assuming this is boot up files? And if so can it just be moved to another drive? How can I get around this?

This drive is just my games and program files which can all be reinstalled so im not to concerned about that. Im  only concerned about what ever this "system Reserve" is.

sorry KaptCrunch, not sure I understand what you mean. I definitely didn't change any hardware for sure. Same motherboard and all. This issue just appeared randomly today. No changes made for it to occur.

It might. Many 'green' drives have the sleep function built in. IIRC for those WD drives they ignored the power saving setting. Some people were able to hack together a firmware update or something that fixed it. Which would obviously void any warranty. But later WD made it part of an official update.

KingStinger, you do not have to re-install your OS for this drive issue and if you do, the S.M.A.R.T error will persists. Doing so will just prove me right!

If you choose to replace the drive? You can run System Recovery Options from your original Windows 7 or above disk. I personally rather repair boot issues  from the command line, which may appear to be harder, however it is much faster. If you need help re-establishing the boot at a later time? I would be glad to assist you.

Here is  a link that speaks of both methods mentioned above that you can use to resolve future boot issues:
