as always when i do my taxes the money i get back i blow it on something, a gift for myself! 8)!  last year was a PC upgrade, this year i'm putting a bunch of it into a new gun.

always wanted a 1911, so after doing my research i think im going to go with the Springfield Armory 1911 Range Officer 9mm.

lots of good reviews on it online and even talked to a couple people who own them and they love it!. i know its not the 45acp , but the 9mm will be cheaper since i plan on shooting it lots.

That looks good, Im thinking about the Smith and wesson M@P 9 mm   but would consider this one... I want a safe, and a slide thats not extremely hard to pull back.. and a couple clips for some new targets or refugees that dont fit in. I get my conceal permit tomorrow, and ready to carry even though it is a big responsiblilty

i shot that mp 9, nice gun for sure!  planning on getting my carry permit in the spring and if im not liking the 1911 as a carry gun, (even though people do carry with it) im looking to get the springfield armory   XD-M compact 9mm.  with a 13 and 19 round mag. :2guns:

Sweet Gun @@Hemps

9mm = more capacity and inexpensive rounds.

If I get another automatic it will be 9mm cuz the UZI is 9mm and I like to keep a few guns that shoot the same round.

Be Safe and have fun

nice gun hemps I got the smith & Weston model  1911 745  its a 45 caliber and it got a good punch . way stonger than a 9mm but its cost a lot for ammo .  when I shoot targets aka lead plates at the range my buddie hits the lead plates 3 times in order to drop them .and my 45 drops them in one hit . good luck :)

I'm with Hammer on this one; if you're gonna spend your finite resources on any model 1911, the .45-caliber round is the way to go.  It's not how many bullets you can carry in your magazine, it's the stopping power of the rounds that you DO have in your mag.  The .45 has much more stopping power than the 9mm.  Sure, the round drops like the proverbial rock beyond 50 yds., but you're probably not gonna be grocery shopping with your 1911 .45 anyway.  Just sayin'.  Ayaq

I agree with @@AyaqGuyaq @@deerejon that the .45 is a much better personal protection round.

The ballistics are simple on the .45

FPS =slow

muzzle energy = Greyhound Bus

The 9mm is a good round no doubt, fun to shoot and when your at the shooting range having a larger magazine means more shots before reload

i shoot a lot of paper at the range, and a 45 is too much cost for putting a wee bit bigger of a hole in a paper target. and it only a couple more rounds in a mag between a 9mm (9-10) and a 45acp (6-7).

so when i do carry i will most likely(not 100%) get a SA XD-M  more rounds in any of the three cal.  9mm(13-19)/40sw(11-16)/45acp(9-13).

friend got a pmr 30, a neat gun but not too reliable. a pain to get all those 22wmr s in there and if you not careful the spring pressure can bend/warp the thin 22 shells and cause failures. and of course rimfire ammo tends to fail a lot more then centerfire.

I have a springfield XD 40 and I absolutely love it!!! I would have to say that Springfield makes one hell of a pistol. One of these days I am going to get the Springfield Champion Loaded .45 pictured above. I want the 45 for a concealed carry weapon. I wish I had gotten it already because they are not manufacturing this right now. They may start running that line again and if they do I will buy it. These are great but don't cost near what a Colt or Kimber cost.

Nice gun....

Wouldn't 40 ammo be more expensive than 45? 9mm is the way to go for price as you are planning.

That' a really nice weapon. I love how they do their grips!! Simple but really nice. They have a few options but the one on you picture is the best one I think.

I conceal my Colt Defender 1911 .45ACP pretty much every where I go (including the grocery store)  :)

Say hello to my little friends.....

Colt Defender 1911 .45 ACP.  I conceal this IWB with hybrid holster and OWB with carbon fibre holster in colder months with sweatshirt / jacket with ease .  A tad heavy for some, and a little unwieldy to get used to at first because of the 3" barrel.  But once you're honed in with it, this gun is absolute heaven.  LOVE this gun!  Very easy to break down and clean.

56fd29e0e4681_ColtDefender.jpg

Remington R1 1911 .45 ACP.  A rock solid performer.  Full size and heavy.  Accurate as heck though.  Not a good handgun for concealing.  Can be a bit of a pain to breakdown to clean, but once you get used to it, it's not so bad.

56fd29fc9de3e_RemingtonR1.jpg

Sig Sauer P238 .380 ACP.   Fantastic handgun.  Very easy to conceal, easy to shoot, easy to break down and clean.  Beware of getting 'bitten' by the slide (especially for larger hands).  My 'go to' for concealing IWB with lighter clothing (i.e. shorts / t-shirts).
