Shingles, despite that I took the shot last fall.

I've been through a lot of pain in my life but it's nothing compared to this. Got up this morning and I could hardly move. They've got me on hydrocodone and valcyclovir and I get no more than four hours of some relief from that. Add to it the misery of constipation from the hydrocodone and I'm miserable.

Hope this doesn't last long. But it's keeping me from the game so I'll be in and out for the duration.

if i were you id try this-I keep seeing shows on how many use it including cancer and professional  football players to relieve pain  instead of addictive dangerous oppiates

-Medical marijuana for shingles
I read somewhere that the shingles virus interferes with the nerve's morphine receptors and hence morphine (and derivative drugs) aren't very effective pain relief. I can attest to having been given several doses of morphine at my first ER visit for (later to find out) shingles and the relief was both incomplete and very very short-lived.

Conversely, I read somewhere else that cannabis receptors are left intact in the nerve and, following that theory, pot smoking should relieve the neuralgia (nerve pain) brought on by shingles. After further reading, it turns out there are different varieties of medicinal marijuana (who knew?!) and getting the right relief means getting the right variety.

In the case of shingles or postherpetic neuralgia, the applicable strain appears to be cannabis indica. This strain is apparently sometimes referred to as night-time weed because it allegedly has a more relaxing, sedative effect - a body buzz instead of a high, if you will.

Cannabis indica also reportedly helps relax bladder muscles and stimulate the bowels, side effects that may be helpful in the treatment of neurogenic bladder or neurogenic bowel complications of the shingles virus.

id at least look into it and try since its now a medical option

I would take that advice in a flash Damage except that I live in Tennessee, where the law allows a prescription for cannabis oil (less than 0.9%THC) only to treat severe seizure disorders. We're in the Bible Belt where I am and a state where there was recently a bill to make the Bible the state book. It'll be a long time if ever that TN legalizes marijuana. Meanwhile thousands continue to suffer where that would help. In my case, I'm taking hydrocodone six times a day; not a good thing to do but I've no choice if I want to sleep at night and work during the day.

Should I make a road trip? I can bring you wax. It will fuck your ass up. And wont have to worry about having a seizes. Your blood pressure will lower and your pulse will rise... part of he high feeling. You have more blood circulating and less stress. But you will be stoned to the max. Prepare for the ride. Hold on tight. Fasten your seat belt. Keep your tray down and have plenty of snacks on hand. You may have a hard time finding them if you don't and their will come a need that you will. Not too much sugars at first as it brings the high down too fast by lowing the pulse. With carbs like chips... a bag or two will do it... family sized. Must have Cheetos but the original.. not the buffy kind. They suck after half a bag. If you need some sugar then captain crunch with the berries. Then have Lucky Charms and eat only the marshmallows. Screw the rest you need to save room and it is just crap ass Cheerios.  To top it all of have half gallon of your favorite ice scream. Chocolate with caramel all over it downing in it if my choice and last a plate chocolate chip cookies.

If you go in revers order and eat the sugar stuff first...you will pass out on the sugar before you get to the carbs. So I was told.

So sorry to hear Harry. I certainly hope you get through it quick. My daughter had them, and she suffered terribly with it. Make sure you eat lots of 'softeners'. Those vicodin really stop you up. Get well soon.

That sucks. When I had my knee replaced they had me on OxyContin, Percocet and Valium all at the same time. Felt like I was passing diamonds. One thing to have pills that help with the pain, but WOW they cause a whole new one. Hope it clears up soon for you

Harry.. just found this. Might ease the pain some.

  • Taking good care of skin sores.
    • Avoid picking at and scratching blisters. If left alone, blisters will crust over and fall off naturally.
    • Use cool, moist compresses if they help ease discomfort. Lotions, such as calamine, may be applied after wet compresses.
    • Apply cornstarch or baking soda to help dry the sores so that they heal more quickly.
    • Soak crusted sores with tap water or Burow's solution to help clean away crusts, decrease oozing, and dry and soothe the skin.
    • Ask your doctor about using topical creams to help relieve the inflammation caused by shingles.
    • If your skin becomes infected, ask your doctor about prescription antibiotic creams or ointments.
  • Using medicines as prescribed to treat shingles orpostherpetic neuralgia, which is pain that lasts for at least 30 days after the shingles rash heals.
  • Using nonprescription pain medicines, such asacetaminophen or ibuprofen, to help reduce pain during an attack of shingles or pain caused by postherpetic neuralgia. If you are already taking a prescription pain medicine, talk with your doctor before using any over-the-counter pain medicine. Some prescription pain medicines have acetaminophen (Tylenol), and getting too much acetaminophen can be harmful. Be safe with medicines. Read and follow all instructions on the label.
