From our News in Canada:

With the recent price increase for EpiPens, more Americans are crossing the border to buy the life saving device.

Mylan, the company that sells EpiPens in the U.S. has hiked up its prices by almost 500 per cent over the past nine years.

Nova Care Pharmacist Peter Dumo this is not the first time Americans have crossed the boarder for medication, nor will it be the last.

He says U.S. companies have no real price regulations.

"It is a common trend in the U.S. for companies to arbitrarily increase their prices by 50-100 per cent in a given year, sometimes 1000 per cent with no real logistical issue in terms of cost of manufacturing, says Dumo."

He says unlike the United States, Canadian drug companies are tightly regulated.

"We have price controls in Canada, all medications that are approved for use in Canada have to go to the Patent Medicine Review Board," says Dumo. "They negotiate with the company what the set price is and how much the price can increase per year. I believe that it is a standard three per cent that a price can increase per year."

Buying an EpiPen in Canada does not require a prescription.

A pack of two EpiPens in the U.S. now costs $600 USD compared to $136 CDN for a single EpiPen in Windsor.

You can probably pay for the Trip to XiFest, bring some down with ya!  The same company is producing a 'generic for over x2 that it costs you Kannucks for the same thing?  This is why we are at the precipice over here.

I am not suprised. The company I work for have a private MRI and 20% of our patients are from the US.

What a money hungry, egocentric fuckers they (Mylan) are. We've had a few similar cases here in the Netherlands, but those got resolved by goverment and/or health insurance.

You can usually choose, the one you have the prescription for, or if it isn't (completly) funded one that has the same 'ingredients' but from another manufactorer.
