I have win 10, had a problem updating files, kept on trying, Finally got it to load. Shut off ALL the firewalls, and win defender, too. Then it worked. Not sure what version you have I have the CD version. Most everything I read online said the ones purchased from Steam or where ever would work but not so much the CD version.
