I carry my Colt Defender .45 ACP regularly in the winter and my SIG SAUER P238 .380 ACP

I prefer all metal guns

And I especially like the safety features of the traditional 1911 frame

I carry a Taurus 9mm Slim every day.  Son and wife both have revolvers, they never jamb and you dont have to look for shell casings on the ground.  Wife also has a S&W Bodyguard .380 in her purse.  This is my gun store, they dont sell to liberals

Yes you can...if you have kids in your home where you keep your gun...way to easy to shoot....

Perfect example of someone recommending a gun that is right for them but not you....Glock is a great pistol...but toss a loaded glock into a playpen and a 1911 both chambered and unholstered and see which one kills the baby first...

johnny

unless it was my 1911 it was wore the hell out and had a hair trigger ;) it never failed to fire ;)

Lol, what the frick, you loaded for Alaska?

Lol.

I noticed that most of the guys and gals that are "packing" are south of the "Mason-Dixie" line.

Is our society so messed up that we have to carry?

As an avid hunter, just wonderin'. . . Ayaq

Short answer, no...I don't expect that my house is going to get broken into but I lock the doors every night  as a precaution...It's the same reason I conceal carry, it's just a precaution (and also my right to do so)...

Well, here in Alaska, we just yell 'n scream in each other's faces.

By the time we run home to grab a fire-arm, we're too winded to use it . . .

Just sayin'.

If I showed my collection of firearms I think it would scare people so let just say there are may firearms that would suit you too shoot but if you have the chance a gunrange with a wide selection of weapons would be your best bet and always remember finger off trigger until ready to shoot.

You left out the important facts of owning a firearm: TRAINING, SAFETY and RESPONSIBILITY. Those apply to ANY firearm in your home, whether you have children or not. By the way, a quick online or 8 hour in-person training class at the range does NOT qualify as training. Neither does shooting static paper targets and tin cans in a field a couple of times a year.

I don't know what your professional background and training is related to firearms, but mine is extensive.

I recommend the Glock for my aforementioned reasons as it comes in many sizes (some adjustable for grip), calibers, concealment capabilities, reliability and ease of basic maintenance. I am by far from being a "Glock fanboy", but I've been issued and trained many different models and calibers over nearly 30 years. The fact is that they work for whatever the intended purpose. I own MANY different makes/models/calibers of handguns, long guns and shotguns, but I can personally attest to the effectiveness, reliability and ease of use of a Glock in deadly force encounters, particularly under stress (and after real world training).

No personal offense, but anyone that leaves a firearm accessible to an infant, toddler, juvenile or untrained adult under any circumstances probably shouldn't own one in the first place.
