The problem with companies outsourcing their manufacturing, apart from the health, safety and wage-related issues that come with working standards of countries like India and China, is the low standards these countries hold towards what elements actually go into the product. There is a recent trend called a fidget spinners, enjoyed by people of all ages. People buy them, customize and decorate them, dedicate social media platforms to them. There are differently shaped fidget spinners and they are available and a range of prices depending on the quality and novelty of the piece. People are spinning away completely unaware that their favorite new toy might actually contain dangerous levels of lead and mercury. These elements are, of course, extremely harmful to humans, especially children with whom they can create many unwelcome side effects as a result of poisoning, the least of which is a loss of appetite and the worst, fatality. Notable is the side effect of developmental delay, given that fidget spinners are recommended for children who already possess this condition which may exacerbate it. Fidget Spinners are a commonplace toy now, but independent researchers have determined that some are indeed are testing at heightened levels of lead or mercury and advise parents to dispose of these potential hazards. This potential threat highlights a large problem in our mass-produced society. Large companies have been using poorer countries to create their products for them for a long time now, citing the need to cut costs. The side effect of this is a compromised safety standard for the product itself. If these companies continue this practice, then products entering the country need to be regularly tested before they are distributed. Heavy fines need to be issued to companies if they allow their products to be contaminated.
