I started to have issues with my CPU temps. It went from 30C idle to 47C idle, running GR: Wildlands 43C then 90+C. Whats odd is it doesn't happen all the time. This morning i played GR: Wildlands and my temps were between 35C-50C but tonight even running a quick virus scan put me at 62C so i'm not going to bother running the game. Any help?

Specs below.

Room temp roughly <15C

I haven't done any overclocking.

Must be an Intel chip because most AMD chips will literally blow apart at around 80c.

What CPU cooler are you running?

The Pump on my old Corsair H100 liquid cooler took a crap and it was acting like that. Wasn't circulating the water but only ran Hot when I played a game.

If you are running a liquid cooler I would pull it off and get another one. 90C+ is definitely to damn hot. My ambient is currently a HOT 31c but my cpu temp is 33-36c idle and never gets up past 52c while gaming even on a very ho day. And I do have the CPU overclocked pretty high. Stock speed on my AMD FX 8320 8 core is 3.5ghz but I have it overclocked to 4.8ghz.

Newer AMD chips use thermal margin instead of actual CPU temps unless you have a monitoring program that can convert thermal margin to an actual Temperature reading. This is about the best and simplest one to use. http://www.piriform.com/speccy

Can you snap a picture or 2 of the inside of your PC and post them here? So we can see what you have configured.

@J3st3rXI I have a Corsair H100i GTX all-in-one cooler.

@Predat0r I've already cleaned the thermal paste and applied new.

I've also tried a few steps given by Intel using their Extreme Tuning Utility

I also did a complete fan cleaning and dust removal from components and rad (as best i could see, apparently a bad job looking at the pictures LOL)

Its an Intel i7-4790k, Corsair H100i GTX (all-in-one)Liquid cooling, Asus Z97-A motherboard, 970 FTW, 32gb Corsair Vengeance ram, 1000w EVGA Supernova GOLD.

I think the pump may have quit running. Looks like it is powered up.

Do you have an adapter that you can hook the cooler directly to the power supply instead of the fan header?

Since you have already cleaned and reapplied the thermal paste,I would try another cooler, even if it is air cooling to determine if the watercooler is having issues.

I hope it is your cooling solution over your processor! I have the same cooler and love it,m but 100 bux isnt too bad of a hit if need be.

I highly doubt its the processor. Very likely your cooler is not functioning properly. I have the same one with an i7 5930K, overclocked to 4GHz and that's stock for you.

I would set the cooler profile to maximum airflow, let it run (noisy I know) for 1 day and see if you experience similar issue. This will help you isolate the issue to cooling system versus mobo+cpu.

Isnt the cooler supposed to have warning lights on the base attached to the cpu if it isnt functioning properly? But yea trying a known working cooler is a good thing to try in order to narrow down the problem. If its the cooler, and its not that old, corsair might replace it. But they likely will have you reinstall it and go through all the troubleshooting steps.

That's the scary thing about an "All in 1" water cooler. There a sealed unit with No actual flow monitoring or warning when the pump impeller may just lock up but the motor could be still turning.

Check your Corsair link and see if the pump RPM is showing up.

Even if the pump rpm shows up it may not be actually pumping water. I've had a couple corsair pumps torn apart and found that they use a rubber? bushing on the end if the impeller. 1 I tore apart was seized in the bushing and the motor shaft was just spinning in the inside of the impeller.

So the motor was spinning fine but it can't pump water without the impeller spinning.

Pump RPM is here. If it reads 0 then it's junk and needs replaced ASAP.  With it not circulating water it's acting like a heat pipe.It will cool the cpu untill you put a load in it. The hoses will get hot to the touch but the radiator will stay really cool.

The Older H100 had a problem with air getting trapped in the pump but you would hear a gargling sound coming from the pump.

Corsair coolers have Distilled water in them. Only way for them to clog is IF you crack open the fill plug and put Antifreeze in them.  If you put antifreeze in them it will cause galvanic corrosion because the antifreeze is slightly acidic and the water block is made of copper and the radiator is aluminum. That's what causes them to clog.

I seen that 1 on Youtube that was clogged but you can clearly see the green tint of the fluid so he did add antifreeze. There is a small fill plug on the side of the pump.

I cracked my original H50 open 4 years ago and added a bigger radiator off of a dead H100i that I got off of ebay for $15 shipped and new tygon clear hose. I used just good old distilled water in it and my clear tubing is still crystal clear after 4 years. BTW the old H40 and H50 had the best pumps out of all of the Corsair coolers. They flow almost twice the volume that the newest ones do. I have a spare H50 pump that did have antifreeze in it and it was clogged up pretty good. Pretty easy to clean once you have them apart.

Yep I've been running the same H50 pump since 2009. They came out back in 2007. Bought my old monitor at the same time and it currently has 32,800 hours on the backlight. So my pump has that many hours on it also. Which is Nuts but I seen on several Overclocking forums that a bunch of Original H50s are still in use even after 10 years. No I wasn't on the PC for that many hours lol it stays on during the day.

It has to be an issue with the cooler. I left my pc running for a few hours today, to see where my temps sit normally. I'm getting 21C idol. As soon as I loaded Call of Duty: WAW my temps shot to 78C where normally it would sit around 30C. The pump shows on LINK (performance mode) that it's running at 2400 RPM and the fans on max at 2160 RPM. I'm not 100% but I think the software is guessing what the RPMs should be and not actual for the pump. Even when i boot up my PC i would usually hear the liquid when its engaged, now i hear nothing.

Thanks for all the trouble shooting everyone. I still have 2.5 years on the warranty so I will RMA this.

you guys would laugh if I took a pic of my PC...old and full of cobwebs yet the only problem I have is I get locked out of certain maps because I still use XP as my O.S. I do have 3 fans though....on in back ,one in front and one right on my old duo/ core processor ....and yet I have no problem holding my own against you techno geeks

...no ill will intended......if I had the cheese I would invest in a dual video card, megacore processor and  a 1 mil. delay screen...maybe a BEN Q 27 INCH

with memory out the ass.....but I keep it simple/old/and outdated...so maybe break out that old dinosaur you have stuck in the back of your closet

and fire that bitch up !!   who knows........

see you guys in COD5 DM and COD4 Ace

Stay out of my $treets if you want to grow old

Not too shabby Streetcleaner. I see you in game. I have a few old machines running around here, plus constructing new one as we speak.

See you in game!
