Hey All,

So with so many here, I thought I'd ask.

I'm looking for a good, however, not stupid expensive video card for my son's computer.  He has my old GTX 660 and obviously he needs an upgrade!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have never been a fan of nvidia but this is my video card Nvidia dual gforce gtx 1060. As soon as I can get my hands on the newest vid card from AMD I am on it!!!

this is newegg.com https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709&IsNodeId=1&Description=Nvidia dual gforce gtx 1060&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=36

I would suggest not getting the one with only a single fan. You will need the dual fans.

I would recommend any of the asus ones.

So any new GPUS/good you will be hard pressed to find in stock.

Amazon is not such a good place to shop for pc parts as for warranty purposes in my opinion.

I always shop at regular computer stores for items like that.

what price range?

gtx1050ti around 160-170 price range is good or gtx1060 around 200 is really good .got a steel of a deal on a rx470 for 169 last year and it worked incredible  when it worked ,unfortunate for me as usual I had to rma twice and return for money back since they could not replace or repair it for some reason/got a loop on boot and thread stuck in device driver error all the time...using old r7 265 which actually still works great

how mutch are you willing to spend?

I'm looking right around the $200 price...  I don't have much in the way of money for Christmas for my kids, and this is like the only thing my 13 year old is asking for.  So trying to keep them all happy within the same price range for gifts is becoming increasingly hard :(

Hell my GTX660 runs all my games great !!!  What is he trying to play ?  Only game I can think of that the 660 would have issues with is the new "Warhammer" game.  Even then, just dial down the graphics.

He's running a GTX 660 right now but is running lower graphics.  He's going to be getting Battlefront II for Christmas, and when he played the Beta, he had things set low and was having issues.  I know it's only the Beta and it has issues, but I ran the Beta and had no issues and I'm running a GTX 970.  Besides the video card, he's running a FX-8320 CPU, 16G RAM and a 120Gb SSD on an ASUS M5A97 R2.0 MoBo

You have to look at the power supply, a 1050 does not require any power input and can run games fine. For example a 750Ti 2GB is equal to a HD7850 2GB and can run most games at medium settings. A 1050 will do the same. So, check out the power output of your PSU and budget.

There will be soon a 1070Ti out on the market. Rumors are that you can't overclock them. But, who does that anyways to get 10 or 15 more FPS? I don't and will hurt my wallet anyways.

Anyways, do not SLi or Crossfire anymore if you think to plan that. Worst case issue is that you are better off to sell the old card and upgrade. A nice card would be a 4GB videocard, but you can be in peace with a good 1050 or a 1070.

If you use this, "can you run it" it will install a small program into your pc to recognize your mobo, vid card, ram etc.

Then type in the box what game you want to play. Then click on Can you run it.

It will show you a list of what you have and what the minimum requirements are to play the game.

It is really good.

Im running a AMD 8350 with 16 gig on a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Motherboard, no SSD and the GTX660 of course .  I tried the beta too with no issues.  Just may be that combo he is using.  I strictly build with Gigabyte motherboards.   I use to only use DFI LanParty boards and then DFI quite making consumer boards !!  Pissed me off !!  Great boards.  Rock Solid.  I have tried Asus, MSI and just found Gigabyte a solid replacement  for DFI.

I recommend the GTX 960, it works really well and last a while for its price.
