Here in Western PA, the traditional meal is sauerkraut and kielbasi for New Years Day.  I remember down in Texas it was black eyed peas.  You eat this for good luck and health for the new year.  What do yall do in other parts of the country, and in other countries

In my part of the UK for luck traditionally we have a 'firstfoot', the first through the door after midnight is supposed to be tall, dark and handsome (first problem), when he enters he is given a whisky and presents a piece of coal (second problem as hard to get now). I'm superstitious so try to stick to it if I can, is that right Sonovabich ?? can't remember anything else?

what does Kielbasi taste like?

Leave it to a couple of boneheads.......

Rob.....kielbasa and sauerkraut is an amazing meal. You should try the kielbasa. Very yummy. :stuart: I'm not sure what we do here. Never heard about this. Might have to look into it. I've lived in PA when I was way younger. Great steak and cheese sammies. My GMA used to make the best.

I just cook a ham, mashed potatoes and veggies.

I use kielbasa (sliced thin) with crackers and cheese or fried up with eggs and toast or just eat it for snack.

Probably one of the top traditions in America is Pork, usually served with sauerkraut in my part of the country.  That has been what we've eaten for as long as I can remember, and I truly don't believe I've ever missed a year without having any.

You seem to eat sauerkraut with everything? Not that popular in UK reminds me to try again.

Another tradition with us crazy gun loving Americans is to pop a couple rounds off at midnight, and or fireworks, which are just as easy to get as guns where I live...so yeah, we go outside and do that.  BOOM SHAKALAKA!
