Hey all.

I am looking to upgrade my video card, and was wondering what others are using. I have not had to do this in awhile, so I'm kind of out of the loop.

I don't mind the idea of something around $200. That might be too cheap.

From what I read the higher end cards are all pricey because of the bitcoin miners buying them all.

first off you need to know your motherboard specs and what it can handle also your power supply plays a big part as in watts?then you go from there!

You will not find anything worth a crap for under $300-$350 unless it's a used card or a very low end card. You can Blame the Cryptocurrency miners  for that shit.

I've read that Video card manufacturers are quite angry because of how the retailers are jacking up prices to ridicules proportions to offset the demand for hi to mid range cards.

Quick example of what I'm talking about. The GTX Titan is 5 years old now and Newegg is selling Refirbished cards for $995 + shipping.

My R9 290X reference card is worth + $150-$175 more now USED on Ebay than I paid for it NEW 4 1/2 years ago. It's Very power hungry and runs Hot and the single blower fan sounds like a Jet plane. Ask people what my fans sound like In-game lol.

Wish I could afford something decent but I can't afford to pay $550-$650+ for a mid range gtx 1070 ti card that's normally priced around $350-$400.

Looks like prices are still going up. Looked through this 3 weeks ago when I considered getting a new card and prices are Way up from just a couple weeks ago.

That is insane. I went to my local pc stores website and was shocked to see the prices of the vid cards.

I do not blame the manufacturers for being angry.

I will never pay a price like that for a pc part like that.

Glad I got my new pc before the prices jacked up like that....GULL DANG!!!

Well, we can all hope things will ease when the bitcoin craze wears thin after it crashes. Nothing is immune to such things. I suspect the gaming industry isnt too happy either. All those high end games need high end cards. When nobody can afford them the developers get to hear how their games suck because of frame rate blah blah blah. They dont like that. I need to get a new card one of these days but not at those prices.

That card is out of stock. It's one of the ones Bitcoin farmers use because of the 8gb memory VS the stock 4gb cards.  Accually it's hard to find the 4gb cards now for under $350. The RX 580 8gb cards are becoming extinct as we speak.  Newegg only has a couple left and the rest are out of stock.

This is a decent card if you can afford $280. RX 570 is almost 2x more powerful than the GTX 1050 ti by all of the benchmarks I looked at.  If you want 1 you better hurry before the fucking bitcoin freaks buy them all up to.

If ALL retailers would put a fucking 10 card or less Limit on how many cards people could purchase it would pretty much kill Bitcoin farmers. I think at this point this should be a mandatory requirement set by the manufacturers.

Good news is If you want to upgrade your Motherboard and CPU they are actually quite a bit cheaper now.  Thinking about picking up a intel i7 7700k. I've seen them as cheap as $350 (used) which is pretty damn cheap for one of the best gaming CPUs that money can buy.

There are low lives that do this.

If they do it that way all the ahole has to do is buy the max amount then go to his car and come back into the store and buy the max amount again. Or, they bring a friend with them and get that friend to buy the max amount.

Just the price hike alone will cause peeps not to want to purchase any.

Errr jacking up the price more won't stop them @Angelz It's not the poor or mid class people like us that's buying up all of the good cards. It's the Allready Rich that can afford shit like this.

It's LARGE scale Bitcoin farms around the world that impacts video card prices. Each small forum factor Micro ATX motherboard with atleast 1 16x PCIe slot can have a daisy chain of 16 riser cards or more hooked to 1 PCIe 16x slot.

Here take a look at this small Bitcoin farm. 42 shelves on 1 side with 6 PCs per shelf 4x video cards per PC. 1,008 high end video cards on 1 side of this double sided rack system and there are several racks like this in this particular warehouse.  This is a Small bitcoin farm compared to some that I've read about.

133-mining-far.jpg

1 normal home owner PC with 6-8 really good cards will pay for it's self in Bitcoin in around 10 years.

None of use Can afford $504,000 for the video cards in the picture and another $504,000 on the other side and 2 more full rack systems in this small warehouse can they?  If so PM me ASAP You need to Stop being greedy give to the needy.  I'm in the need lol.

That's fucking ridicules.

Just read that one of the largest BITCOIN farms is in China with eight warehouses containing 25,000 processing machines each.

It's getting so bad that it's degrading the Power Grids World Wide and they expect it to be 20x worse by 2020.

Figures Bitcoin was invented in China. Sounds like a fucking Hostile Economical World takeover if you ask me. And all the government has to do is ban generated crypo currency and we're back to normal but at war with China. What happens WHEN someone figures out how to hack the damn thing?

Ok on the topic of bitcoin I swear I threw a few bucks at it 10 years ago but don't know for sure. Is there any way to check if I actually did or if it was a brandy dream?

Also wtf does bitcoin mining actually mean and or do?

Thanks ya'll!!
