Got to chatting in game the other day about coffee and our mutual obsession with it. I wanted to get a discussion going about your favorite brewing methods, roasts, cafés and what kind of setups you are all using.

I'll start...

I am a huge fan of Aeropress for a normal cup of coffee and it is my go to for camping. When visiting a cafe or at home I typically go with espresso, or espresso based drinks.

Anyone other XI folks have espresso setups at home? What are you brewing right now?

Hell yeah Timmah! That is awesome. I haven't gotten into the roasting. I am more of an Amateur Barista than a roaster. I have become friends with all of the local roasters so I have access to lots of great coffee. What do you use for roasting? Do you have a small batch roaster or are you using a stove top device or popcorn popper?

I built a cafe in my basement this year to house my Slayer Single group espresso machine and compak E8 grinder. I use a Baratza Vario as my pour over grinder.

As for coffees, I tend to wander all over the spectrum as far as regions and roast levels. I am currently pulling a Kenya from Kindred Coffee in West Chicago, IL and Ghost Town Guji from Bozeman, MT. Both are on the brighter side and are roasted medium to light medium.

Have you tried an aeropress Timmah? Far better than a French Press IMO. Gives a much cleaner more consistent cup of coffee.

Quelqu'un d'autres personnes XI ont des configurations d'espresso à la maison? Qu'est-ce que vous préparez en ce moment?

Icequeen a réagi à cela
je pense que icequeen ferais un bon expresso lol

My Go to:

91+EZX7GfXL._SY450_.jpg

Nothing fancy to brew it.  We have a 1-2 cup machine that take 90 seconds to brew.

Sugar and sometimes flavored creamer,  and it's just as good as Starbucks!

We French press it when camping or traveling

Nice! A cafe in your basement.   Access to the local roasters is great....they can give you advice on what the ramping temperatures they like to use for different coffees....I use an air-pop popcorn machine and thermometer to monitor the roast temps....toggle it off & on when I want the the coffee to sit at a certain temp. to develop flavors, then leave it on again when ready to continue.....before that I simply used my oven. =)

Just gotta be sure the temp don't drop when pausing the ramp or it results in a less than optimal roast.  Gonna give the aeropress a try to bring out the cleaner notes!  I use a conical-burr grinder for an adjustable grind.  Roasting can be a fun hobby....especially when the beans you like are in-season.....Sweet Marias is another site for small batch purchases....

I have one of those nespresso capsule machines to use if I am in a hurry. Otherwise a typical espresso machine I use with ground coffee beans. As for coffee beans, peets coffee generally. Im not a coffee nerd. I cant really afford the really good stuff but I do enjoy it when I can.

Bro...you join one of the clubs and split the cost of a bag when it's in-season...the price is comparable to store-bought....all you gotta do is take the time & a little patience to roast and grind it.....The quality of coffee you will get will be orders of magnitude beyond what you are familiar with...

I use a Westbend Poppery for roasting...got a 2nd for backup...got 'em on E-bay  You want the 1500 Watt version...you can find this stamped on the base of the unit.  Shouldn't have to pay more than around $50.00 for one...they're very well built....

I use a Capresso conical burr grinder... the grinder is VERY IMPORTANT....you can have the best beans....use a crappy grinder...& you'll get below average brew @ best.

I like espresso with a shot of sambuca in it at any time of the day because it's always noon somewhere in the world lol

My favorite coffee is Chock fill o'Nuts when I can find it.

I usually buy Maxwell House Rich Dark Roast or Folgers Dark Roast.

It's like everything else in this world of ours. If we stopped eating and drinking everything that they say causes illnesses including breathing in the polluted air on a daily basis we all would die.

I have been drinking coffee 30 plus years and I am healthy.

It has always been a dream of mine to get a small farm and have my own cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, vegetable garden and fruit trees. Then I could have food that did not contain all the chemicals that they put in foods these days.

used to have a few basic expresso machines, they all went in the dustbin.
then i start using a french press, but i stopped that as my fav coffee is from a stainless steel Italian coffee pot
i grind my grains, but buy them roasted. i used to live next to a coffee roasting pub, that was fantastic coz u wake up in the morning and the whole street was smelling good coffee :).

blends i used is mostly hundurian (wich we all like here because of its chocolate notes, its lovely), maragogype,  santos superior, but best coffee i ever tasted was a blue mountain but its so expensive and hard to find around here.

join the green coffee buying club...and when it's in-season...the Blue Mountain...you can split the cost with everyone else to buy a bag or 3...you'll just have to roast them yourself...or find someone to roast it for you...
