You can only vote for one? Would be smart to let us vote for every city we'd be willing to go to. That way you quickly get a shortlist most people will be OK with and you can just pick either the most popular or the most convenient from that shortlist.

It would also prevent non-attending members from picking a UK location and then not showing up. I'm not suggesting people might be doing that, but they are.

First part good idea, second part stinks, I would not go to anywhere outside UK, and don't even know yet if I'll get there so FU mate you've just made up my mind to vote!

IMHO...

What a load of bollocks... The whole point of this post is to choose a location for the fest then someone can start looking into hotels/attractions/nightlife etc in the chosen location. Whether people choose to attend the chosen location or not is irrelevant at this time...

I've voted for the UK location now for the same reason as @RobMc

I don't know what the fuss is about with locations.

1. This forces your hand in a way, and going new places is not a bad thing.
2. Doing it this way guarentees atleast some people will go.
3. If you don't want to go to that particular location then what's the harm in organising your own event in your own country?

Actually, the point of asking about which cities will work is to find the ones that would get the highest attendance. Because as in previous years, it's more fun if we have more people.

Though you might get your wish. More people have voted for UK than have attended any one of these shindigs - it'll be a big one if everyone who voted is serious about showing up! :D

So in that scenario, you would vote Edinburgh only; and you would show up as "yeah, I'll be happy to come, but in Edinburgh, not somewhere else". It would also have me able to pick three or four cities (Edinburgh def. among them) that would be fun. But it's not technically easy to do so no point in arguing after it.

As for the second bit:

Because history has shown that the number of voters is a LOT higher than the number of people who actually go. Having people who are unlikely to actually go vote just makes it harder for the organizers to find which city is most popular.

Ducky I don't know where your pond is located, but surely you don't think anyone is going to vote for somewhere they don't want to go to?? Firstly the choice of locations was poor, I would put one venue in each European country ( even Groningen) and then vote, taking requests into account, ffs Truro?? I too vote carrots! I would dearly love to meet members but have my own particular circumstances to take into account, which includes a promise to myself not to go more than 150 miles from home (I have travelled millions around the world). Where you pissed me off causing me to vote, although I wasn't going to, (hence the fu) was suggesting that people from the UK should not vote for a UK venue, once more fu! in democracies we vote how we want? I will attend IF I can, but may not know until the last moment, and many working people will be the same, so we shouldn't get a choice should we ?? that is how I read it.

Again you're talking arse... We always have a vote for the city to attend, this then allows for someone to garner the possible numbers of attendees and look around for places to stay & things to do... As usual people are voting for the location in their own country or the closest one to it for their own reasons... And as for people not turning up after they vote? So what? Work & personal commitments mean some of us will not be attending but I voted because we live in a free democracy and I can vote or not, it's my choice...

People are always going to argue over where the fest is held, we had UK 2 years ago and people moaned, it was in Berlin last year and people moaned... We're >XI<... We're old farts... We love to moan!!

No, that's the damned point, lass. "where do you want to go" could have more than one answer from that list.

I didn't say that, I said people who have no intention of going voting for a place corrupt the result, putting the meet in a place so they can/will/want to attend, and then not coming; at the same time other people who mightn't want to go to that place now aren't coming but would have if it'd been somewhere else.

I don't know why the two of you are taking everything I have written as a personal insult. But I guess it doesn't matter if you're not coming anyway.

I was at all but one of them. I know how it works mate. Talk about talking arse. But so that means you'r ejust voting because you're angry, not because you're coming? Noted.

Be be fair there is alot of hate on this topic but then again I think there should not of been a public poll on the main homepage but rather in the topic itself

Just my 2 cents....

OK Ducky 'Lass' I laughed, you'd better hope now I'll not come (only kidding), I would love to go to Edinburgh if I can so if at all possible see you there. You must admit not just me read your comments differently to which you say you meant them - happens, water under the bridge lass! I think the whole thing disappointing, pity, by the way July is at the height of school holidays in Scotland if it wins.

No worries, I'm not so easily scared (esp not if Jaysus will be there, I can hide behind him all day!)

I'm not sure if July is set already - before this poll got opened we were discussing time and location polls and I've only seen a "where" poll, not a when. Maybe that comes after we determine where it is.
