So I'm outa ideas and before I go yell at asus I need to know I've tried everything possible so I do not come out smelling like poo poo. So my machine has been doing stuiped shit for a long time I could not figure that out so I built a new one last one was old.

Mb is an ROG B350-F  (asus)

Installed 16 GB of HyperX 2133

Everything is working good its fast have not tried to compile anything yet so I do not know if the little bugs are gone but that's another story. What my issue is here is my memory and if its a windows issue or a MB issue. Right now I'm going MB. So I've done the usual cleared the bios updated the bios check each stick one at a time 2 at a time and all 4 at the same time. Each test only gave out half of what the memory was ie 4 gb said 2 held in reserve ect ect . On the windows side I've done the regedit hacks,  in System control under boot/advanced options uncheck max mem I've tried everything I could think of or find. Now what I can show you.

So the bios does show 4 sticks of 4 GB at 2133

IMG_0983.thumb.JPG.f3d7579d9b9812c9aaa6d0228f04af5c.JPG

Here though it saying only 8 Gb

IMG_0982.thumb.JPG.d7dee6234ce19f0389ca88988383f6b9.JPG

And in windows it sees all 4 sticks. But says its holding 8.1 in reserve I don't get that

Any way any ideas crazy out of the box ideas I will try all I want is 16 GB and no problems with this build friggen bad choice for a MB I think

  Thank you all ME

Is your memory compatible with the motherboard? I do not see HyperX on the list below.

Here is a link to all the memory that is compatible for your motherboard:

Try G-Skill as it is recommended for Asus boards as far as I know used it on mine and never had a problem

Several problems and solutions that I have learned over the years.

CPU not properly seated will do that. It might see all 16gb of memory but only use a portion of it.  When I build a New PC I put the CPU in the socket and clamp it down. Then take it back out and clamp it back down. I'll do this a couple times before I put my thermal paste on and bolt down the cooler.

Lightly press down on the CPU while you lock it down the last time.

AMDs memory controller is on the CPU so if it's not seated correctly it will cause all types of problems. 1st gen socket 939 and AM2 were notorious for not seating the 1st couple times. You could not just pop it in and go unless you were really lucky lol.

Motherboard could have a faulty memory channel.  I've had to RMA quite a few mid priced motherboards lately for PCs that I have built for people.

CPU could be faulty but that rarely happens these days.

Memory compatibility should Not be the issue since you are running the correct speed of memory for the motherboard and that memory is 1.2v. If memory voltage is higher than 1.5v you have to set the voltage up manually. You have Bios Version 3803 which is the latest version.

Here is what I would do if you still have problems after Re-Seating the CPU. This is going to take hours but it's the only way to test both the memory and motherboard.

Untitled.jpg.1acbf97f64849d5b9973fc8f5468c1d0.jpg

This is your motherboard. I marked Channel 1 in Blue and Channel 2 in Orange.

Step 1.  Install 2 memory modules in channel 1 and load into windows and run Windows Memory diagnostics.

Click Start, type mdsched.exe in the Search box, and then press Enter.  Choose whether to restart the computer and run the tool immediately or schedule the tool to run at the next restart.

Let it run untill it's completely done. If errors are displayed Replace memory.

Step 2.  Pull those out and put the other 2 in channel 1 and test again.

Step 3.  If no errors were detected Repeat the tests above on Channel 2

If you get errors in 1 channel and not the other you will have to RMA the motherboard.

I know it sucks testing 4 sticks of memory in 4 different slots because it takes forever but that's the only way to test all 4 memory modules and all 4 memory slots.

Hope this helps.

Well I'm not dropping another 250 for ram so for now this is it :)  Fine tuning ram right down to what they say is the absolute perfect ram for that cpu is all good and fun for some real serious gaming but I was just trying to build a good working rig.  I tried all the combos and it all came back good I tried it with  memtest as well as mdschek.exe . I tried cpu-z and found this ? I wonder if its all cut in half because the frequency is cut in half ???? I checked in the bios and it is set at 2133 which is double of what cpu-z sees .

Fuck ASUS!!!

I said this long ago when I had issues with a BRAND NEW BOARD and all they wanted to do was send me a REFURB and hold money on my Credit card until they got the faulty one back. Shitheels.

Their support SUCKS and they honestly don't give a flying fuckhole about me or you. They think they have us by the short and curlies but the other option is to get a better board from elsewhere.

Never again, Asus, never again.

Oh, and the replacement MSI board I installed went in smooth as silk, no issues and runs like a champ, even with a Win7 install on it (where the ASUS wouldn't work  - their suggestionn was to install Windows 10 - FU!) Overclocking is also better on my MSI.

See that the thing I've always had great asus boards all my old ones are in the kids houses running plex servers and one is real old two. Same goes for kingston ram I've never had a problem so I went with the ones I know . I'll be honest here though I've always went business class on my MB this time I decided to go fancy and this happens . The one I pulled out of this build was running ddr 2 mem that old and the only reason to change was I wanted ssd support . O well live and learn we all have our lessons grrrrr

I will only trust G-Skill ram in any of my pc's. Right now I am using G.SKILL Trident Z Series 16GB DDR4 3200  and never any probs.

My motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-AB350-Gaming 3  and no probs.

My cpu is a AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core and no probs.

My monitor, sound card, dvd and blu ray players are all asus and no probs with any of them.

Had an issue with the software on my blu ray and asus sent me a cd of the new one. Been great ever since.

I am using and will always use w7 ultimate. Coz I think everyone knows I will never ever ever put w10 in any of my pc's.
