Well i don't get the option to choose when updates are installed in my settings and on the middle tab in my picture below where it says "Automatically download updates, even over metered data connections (charges may apply) as you can see it is set to Automatically update, if i click the box to switch that off it just jumps back to on, so they obviously don't want to us to block them from updating, i can't see the point of them giving us the option if we cant use it.

Oh well that's not cool.

Version Update 1709 Fall Creators Update (Which I Postponed until  January 14th of this year) for Windows 10 Pro 64 gave me options that I did not have before.  Are you running Pro 64 bit?   Might be different in Home Edition vs Pro.

That option was also 'available' for me. But when I clicked it, it did nothing... fckers!

Well that blows goat.

I'm going to go make a fresh system restore point NOW. It's been a while and it's hard to tell when they will push this update to the rest of us.  Better to be safe than FUBAR!.

Turn that auto / check for updates off !!!   I know many just try to set "Windows Update" to manual, but that wont stick.  Windows 10 will restart the damn thing.   Here is the only way I could get Windows 10 updates to stop and stay that way.

Go to services and double click "Windows Update",force it to stop, then choose the "log on tab". Check the "This Account" box, then in that field type .\Guest
In the password field leave it as is. Though the password field generates characters, they dont function. Just leave them. Click apply and thats it. Hope it helps.

Wont let me do that, when i type .\Guest then hit apply it says "please enter a valid password" even though there is already a 15 character hidden password in the box?

Yeah that's what i said before this update, don't think because you have never had any problems that you wont get any problems in the future, it's the luck of the draw.

It seems there are quite a few people getting the same problem as me since this last fucking update...ie not being able to switch the PC off in the correct way, i need to fix this because it says switcing off with the button on your PC case too many times will damage the Hard Disk.

Just about every major update I've seen so far with win10 seems to jack up my sound card speaker/mic settings. I have to go through and change the default devices or reinstall the driver. I prefer win7 anytime compared to this os.

Yup just did me the same way and left me no roll back so after then drivers as we speak

I really need to find a fix for me to switch my PC off in the correct way, i can't leave it running all the time, the fixes i have found so far on Google have not worked, strange thing is, this problem i have from the last update was a problem that arose in an October update so how the fuck it just affected me now is very strange.

Have you gone through your power settings to make sure they were not set to defaults?

Sorry been away a few days.   Are you logged on as  admin ?  Try putting your cursor in the password field (end of text), then hit apply. Here is Microsofts link to what I did and relayed to you https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-other_settings/windows-10-windows-update-keeps-turning-it-self/323c832e-119f-4552-8641-474acbd3dcff  Also came across this app.  http://www.novirusthanks.org/products/win-update-stop/

Win key + R type gpedit.msc On the Local Group Policy Editor windows, navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Updates. On the right ya see Configure Automatic Updates double click it and select what ya want for your liking. If you open the windows update folder there is defer windows updates. I use select when windows updates are received on the right side click the enable bubble and if you look down you can see after feature update is received and you can defer update for 365 days. lol Once a year I reformat anyway at least but you can just reset it once a year too. No updates for me. If I need an update I manually install it. :)

Forgot to mention I also just started using a modded version of windows. Windows 10 Enterprise Gamer edition. It has some registry tweaks and services disabled by default. Also has some core components removed that are not needed if you are just gaming and a lot more. Dropped my ram usage by 1/2 and I needed it because I am stuck with 4GB of ram for now. :)

Another annoying thing about this is i found out after i Googled this problem that it actually came from an October 2017 update yet it happens to me after a May 2018 update, how come i never had a problem for 6 months then suddenly this happens, pissed off at Microsoft not taking any responsibility for all  this crap they cause, they must know lots of people are getting problems after every update....but where are the fucking fixes? That Novirusthanks link don't try to download a load of crap onto your PC like Virus protection programs etc etc does it m8?
