It turned out like mine does. The only way is home made. Store bought is way too dry and it feels like your choking on every bite.

Yeah it is very cheap but sooooooooo good.  Ingredients are always in your house at all times lol I have added chopped nuts and fillers to it before just to try something different.

With this recipe, I learned about 'high-ratio' preparation method; where you don't have to bother with creaming the butter with the sugar first.  You just mix the dry ingredients, then add all the butter & 1/2 the liquid; mix...then add the remaining 1/2 of the liquid in 2 intervals.  Much faster.   This is the recipe I used: https://www.onceuponachef.com/recipes/perfect-pound-cake.html

Next is a sour cream pound cake I see on allrecipes.  =)

My recipe I have been using since the beginning of time lol is:

3 eggs
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder

Beat eggs, butter and add sugar slowly
Add flour and baking powder
Beat until smooth

Bake 325F  I do not put a time on it as every oven is different.

Very similar to the recipe I used; Glad I found the advice to drop the temp by 25 degrees since I was using a Pyrex dish.  Have you tried the high ratio method?....maybe try it once and tell me what you think.   The cook book I cut my teeth on was the Fanny Farmer cook book aka the Boston Cooking School...back in the '80s.  https://www.amazon.com/Fannie-Farmer-Cookbook-Tradition-Generation/dp/0553568817

350 was a typo on my part. I fixed it. I am so used to 350F on almost everything I cook.

I purchased 2 cook books during home economics in the 70's. I still use them today.

After my mother passed in 1986 my father divided her cook books with my sisters and I. We were shocked because through out our entire lives we never seen our mother use any recipes. She used her hands and fingers for everything with a pinch of this dash of that and her palm for cups. When we looked through her books she had written in them. She changed the recipes to her way LOL Her being from Scotland we had her baking experience of tablet, pastries, scones, everything she baked basically was from the UK !!!

She worked at the second Tim Horton's that was built for over 25 years. She met Tim Horton a week before his accident. She introduced the Tim Bits and received a stuffed Tim Bit (Only 3 were ever made). I have it now. She won the store many trophies with her design of the cream donuts.

It's coming up on the Holidays and I always bake a pound cake for them. Below is my recipe that I use. It's a old family recipe and makes one of the bigger pound cakes.

2 sticks butter room temp

1/4 cup Crisco

6 eggs room temp

1 cup milk room temp

3 cups plain floor

pinch of salt

3 cups sugar

1/2 tsp baking powder, but I add another 1/2 tsp to mine.

1 tsp lemon flavoring or 1 tsp vanilla flavoring, which ever you like or you can add both.

Cream butter, crisco and sugar, add eggs one at a time .

In another bowl I mix flour, salt and baking powder.

Then I mix it all together and add flavoring. I normally do lemon that's what they like the best.

Put in a greased and floured pan and bake at 325 for 1 1/2 hours.  My pound cake pan is the old aluminum type so if you use a dark pan I'm sure the time would be shorter so if I did I would check it sooner.

That's a nice recipe, but why not make your own thread for it so that it has higher visibility?

I would make 2 loafs add some red and green food colouring and make them look festive for Christmas.

That's very considerate.  But this isn't my forum...it's a cookery forum for everyone.  It would be a shame if people hesitated to post their own version of something in their own thread just because somebody else mad a version of it.  That being said, please feel free to post your fine cooking skills wherever you like.  ?
