Hello,

Looking at buying a .22LR handgun, to expand the stash of .22LR I hoarded during the shortage a few years back. also, getting a secondary handgun that the wife would like better, just less recoil than my 9mm.

If you have a .22LR pistol, tell me about it, comments, etc. Need to look for a reliable, solid, heirloom-grade pistol built to last.

Cheers XI!

I was lucky and received a colt woodsman match target pistol. 1951 vintage.  From my father.  It’s value keeps going up, but I Have never shot a better smoother more accurate 22lr pistol ever.   He had used it in competition and always placed in the top

This has me interested, why was there a shortage? Did Angu5 use the entire supply that year?

Nice! An old handgun that comes with memories passed on to you. Definitely something that my potential purchase shall become one day! I'm sure they don't make then as sturdy as the old days tho...that is the problem. Pot metal and plastic bushings (on some, not all).

Lol. Don't know Angu5, is he a gun nut?In 2014-15, there was a lot of well-know Gun channel american youtubers that discussed the shortage. Even in Canada where I'm from, ammo was scarce. Some Obama-related bill or something being discussed. Price when up. Some folks were lining up at Wal-mart at opening to grab a few bricks. .22LR manufacturers were producing full tilt. so its people that started to stash ammo, for a rainy day I guess... I got about 10 bricks (around 5000) rounds. Nothing to write home about, but enough to plink for free for a little while.

Now, in Canada, some enviro "tree huggers" are proposing a total ban on LEAD ammo. that would take care of people's stash and would impose hefty enviro fees to remediate the existing shooting ranges....

crpmofo that shortage a few years back was not a 22 caliber pistols and riffles it was a .223 ar15 ammo shortage.   they were talking about banning ar15 assault riffles and so there was a run on ar15 guns and .223 ammo wich on some ar15 you can also use .556 ammo in it  I hope this helps :)

In California there was a huge run on 22lr,s  pallets would come in and go out just as fast as the 223s.  They got expensive and hard to get for years.

It still amazes me that Walmart sells guns and ammo, to us in UK it's very strange, the most dangerous thing we ever see in Asda (UK Walmart) are cactuses in summer, you all must know the old joke over here.

Man at checkout in Walmart, the cashier says sorry sir we can't sell you that Kinder Egg as the parts inside might hurt your child, man replies oh that's ok I'll just take an M16 and a 1000 rounds of ammo then please.

From what I'm gathering in this post is that Walmart sell guns and ammo cheaper than gunshops, that true?

I have a CZ 75B 9 mm Omega right now, very nice. For .22LR, the Ruger Mark IV looks great, now easier to dissassemble, etc..

As for the ammo, I have more than 10 bricks of .22. This is why I look for a .22 pistol.

I have a lot of different pistols and some pretty outrageous ones in custom calibers.  But I have more fun with the 22 pistol than any of the others.   Can go out and shoot all day for next to nothing and it doesn’t beat the crap out of your wrist and arm.  Find the one that fits you. A lot of ranges usually have a selection you can try out to see if you like them

Gentlemen, he's asking about .22LR pistols, not what you have in other calibers ("calibres" if you're @RobMc or @AthenA--you know, the type that spells "caliber" the wrong way?).

I HAD a S & W .22LR revolver, but got rid of it because it was inaccurate and way to loud for a .22LR.

I HAVE a Ruger Mark I .22LR, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!

Not nearly as loud, feels natural in your hand (because of the grip angling, don't ya know?), and is PRETTY DAMN ACCURATE!

Great action, nicely constructed, and fun to shoot.

I have other pistols, but I am, as usual, on point.

Respectfully submitted (again, as usual, mostly),

Ayaq

Are you sure the inaccuracy was the pistols fault ?  Lol

funny you mention it being loud.  My Woodsman match target is real loud.     From what I have heard the military used some of them when there was a 45 acp shortage for training purposes.    They lighted up the spring in the 22    It caused the pistol to recoil and sound close to the 45acp.    Mine doesn’t have the recoil.  Glass smooth.  But with some loads it is really loud for a 22 semi auto

Finally found a good deal on a Browning Buckmark UFX. Comes with only one mag, but besides that, its seems to be quite reliable and recommended by looking at reviews. Wife is buying it as my X-mas gift in advance. Ye!
