My pc started over heating and shutting down because my cooler wasn't giving enough air to my new cpu. So I purchased a new cooler ( Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4 premium-grade 140mm dual tower) and did some benchmarks. It blew intel away.

I was impressed...

Intel Stock CPU Coolers are fine for everyday work and business work. Gaming.. it must be replaced to get the performance out of the chip. Nice.. your CPU will  thank you for the proper cooling.

And I thought I was the only one with the FX bottleneck lol.

Single core performance is what you want for gaming because 99% of all games only use 1 or 2 cores. The AMD FX chips have shit single core performance so they are shit for gaming. Hell a 45 watt  Intel i7-3720QM quad core 2.60 GHz 3.60 GHz @ max turbo speed, Laptop CPU smokes the AMD FX chips in single core performance for fucks sake.

My PC has a FX 8320 and the PC that I built for mom has a FX 8350.

I had my 3.5ghz FX 8320 Overclocked to 5ghz and it helps alot but it was running a little warm in the summer months. I had it stable @ 5.3ghz but it was running really Hot. Max Temps on the FX chips is 61.1°C and I was easily hitting that benchmarking.

I'm currently running it at this particular CPUs sweet spot of 4.7ghz. My core temps never go above 48c while gaming and up to 54c @ 100% usage while benchmarking. Thanks to a Corsair H115i with 4 fans in a push pull configuration.

My next build will be with a $350 i7 8700k. Prices are dropping on them quite a bit since the i9s came out.  If I ever win the lottery I'm going to build a new PC around an i9. Possibly an i9 9900k.

I'm tired of the whole AMD CPU bottleneck thing that's always hung over there heads. I've always run AMD CPUs because they are what I could afford. Price vs performance has always weighed on my PC builds. With the price differences between 2 comparable CPUs, a Ryzen 7 2700x and an intel i7 8700k only being $40-$50 I'm going with Intel this time. The i7 8700k is also slightly faster than a Ryzen 7 2700x.

i9? There are i9's now? I havent kept up on cpu and gpu developments.

edit: Damn, those are mega expensive. Considering how the stock markets have been fairing the last couple weeks, well, some things have to wait.

Bite me ok? ?

I've been using AMD chips sense the AMD K6 2 333mhz cpu came out. Time to give team blue a run.  I went from the K6 2 333 to a K6 2 500 to a (trash picked) Pentium 3 850 to a AMD Athlon XP 2500+ to a AMD Athlon XP 3200+ to an Athlon 64 3700+ to an AMD Phenom II X3 720 to a AMD Phenom II X4 965 to my current AMD FX 8320. So you can see that I am not Intel Fanboy lol.  I do what I can with what I can afford.

New i9 9900k is around $570  5ghz per core on turbo. So not that bad considering.  If you want anything over 8 cores your going to pay a premium from either manufacturer.

@J3st3rXI You sound like your trying to convince yourself to go against what you now is the right decision to make...............AMD all the way. LOL

Nothing on God's green earth can make me go against AMD for any reason.

The prices, the performance of AMD products are way more realistic than intel.

This link shows the benchmarks and prices of all the high end cpu's between AMD and intel...

Wrong list for gaming CPUs @Angelz lol.  You want the best Single core performance CPU that you can get. Take a look at this list. Where are the AMD chips? Way down the list. Under about 50 Intel CPUs. And some are Are actually cheaper or around the same price.

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

The best gaming CPU you can get is the i9 9900k. $579 Currently sold out. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117957&cm_re=i9_9900k-_-19-117-957-_-Product

I Play the MMO game Guild Wars 2 every day. It's a poorly optimized game that only uses 1 core. With my system specs I should easily hit 150fps+ but I get a whopping 32-45fps and down to 8-9fps (on Medium settings) while trying to fight most of the World Boss monsters. I have an old Dell XPS 420 hooked to my TV that has a Intel Q6600 quad core and 4 gig of DDR2 and an old Nvidia 450gts 1g card. That POS gets the same 32-45fps But 28-32fps during the same boss battles.

It also doesn't show the ghz for any of the AMD cpu's.

To me,  it doesn't matter where AMD is on the list. The fact that AMD just doesn't pop out their products one right after another with ridiculous prices is just one of the reasons I am a die hard fan of AMD.  AMD also thinks of the people not their CEO's and share holders LOL just thought I would pop that in because I can LOL hahahahha

Guess you never seen the amount of different server cpus and prices of AMD server CPUs lol

Here is 139 different AMD Opteron server CPUs

https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Description=amd opteron&Submit=ENE

And the New AMD EPYC Server CPUs based on the Threadripper

https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100008494 601318605

AMD Bulldozer and Piledriver based CPUs Like my FX 8320 and FX 8350 are shit for gaming because of the way the chip is designed. They literally have 1/2 the Execution units of a quad core with hyper-threading. The CPU bottlenecks it's self when trying to run a poorly optimized program like most games are. A proper quad core will have 4 execution units (1 per core) where the Bulldozer has only 1 per every 2 cores then a Dispatcher or splitter. Basically 1/2 the throughput or bandwidth that it should have. Just very poorly designed.

It does overclock like a motherfucker though. 3.5ghz stock and I've had mine to 5.3ghz. The AMD 8350 and 8320 hold the overclocking world records @ 8.794ghz (31 * 283.69 MHz) on a volt modded  Asus CROSSHAIR V FORMULA-Z which is the same board that I am running.

My CPU overclocked comes in very close to a Stock 2nd gen i7 2600k in synthetic benchmarks. But real world mine is a good bit slower in most single core applications.

They fixed this issue with the release of the Ryzen CPUs. And No Doubt that They are damn good CPUs. I figured why the hell not go with Intel this time sense the price VS performance has become very comparative these days.

I have only built 2 Intel based rigs , since I began building my own pc's back in 1985.  Even though AMD was a supplier of 286/386 cpu's to Intel, I always bought AMD branded cpu's (cost less).  Its not that I dont like Intel, its always a cost performance decision.  And I've built more pc's then I can remember.  I've been planning a new game system and I did decide to go with Intel this time.  And again, it is a performance / cost decision.  Intel wins this time.   The last Intel build was a i7-2700k rig, which I use in a DAW (digital audio workstation) PC.  I built it in 2012 (I think).  I do remember I dont like the way the Intel heat-sink attached to the motherboard.  Real cheap locking mechanism.

Anyone remember the magazine "Computer Shopper" ?   What a big ass magazine it was !!!   Was like the Sears Christmas catalog too me !!  Loved it.  Remember the company "Dirt Cheap Drives" ?

Must admit  could never understand how ,why, what ,when, who bottlenecks lol  will admit have terrible hitbox on BF4,so last night thought as you lot put it single core, nah didnt like it,so set the affinity  on it to 5 core worked a lot better......oh if some thinking huh how you do that

right click on taskbar .Taskmanger.. click on details tab at top  ..left click once on game your playing then right click mouse...you can set your PC priority in there[ max resources]  Infinity.....select how many cores you want to use............bad part they dont stay, when you exit game they reset to default........

But as few have mentioned its price, not all of us can burn  loads of dosh, here in the UK we get ripped on stuff, most switch the US dollar Sign to the UK £ sign, forget exchange rate

i7 8700 (non k) here and with turbo it sits on 4.3Ghz under any load on all cores. I ran a Phenom II x6 1090t since it's launch for 8 or 9 years or something. It finally died. The i7 has brought my frames soo much higher and no more stutter. Still running R9 290X and I can play any game I want now. Night and day to my old Phenom. She served well but $289 from Best buy this chip is amazing!!! Minimum frames are much higher and I can encode video with handbrake while gaming and not have any problems. Max temp has been 70c in prime 95 with 212 evo cooler for $25 on Amazon. Best purchase ever!!! Oh 16 gigs 3000Mhz DDR4 was $154 and Mobo was $109. $630 with tax for everything but it was worth it! Sold my motorcycle just to fix my baby. :)
