On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918

This year it is 100 years since the end of WWI

Big Celebrations in small town America will take place to Remember those who went on to fight for Freedom,Some came home and many did not...

Lest we forget

For the Fallen

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

For The Fallen was first published in the Times on September 21 1914. Laurence Binyon (1869-1943) wrote it while working at the British Museum, and did not go to the western front until 1916, as a Red Cross orderly. The poem's fourth verse is now used all over the world during services of remembrance, and is inscribed on countless war monuments.

Absolutely right you are missing the whole point of this, the poppy is a salute to the DEAD, i.e. men who gave their lives for a cause, if you want your own Poppy/Shamrock then have one, but do not be disrespectful to our brave soldiers, a lot of your boys fought against tyranny and are included, your attitude is nothing short of disgraceful to your fellow countrymen.

Basically I don't care at all when it comes to the poppy, heck sure the news recently is James McClean is not going to wear one this week

It's just there was other stuff that went on during WW1 that people forget about.

The post was originally to support the Poppy this week and @Angelz made a emblem in support of it. I would support it but in Ireland it's basically an insult that's all

I understand, but I have many times stood for your national anthem (one memorable night in the Shannon Hotel Foynes amongst many) I showed respect for your men, please show respect for ours. Soldiers are not politicians, they are doing a job under instructions from politicians, they probably don't like it, but they do it, that does not detract from their bravery and loss. If the Irish still consider the poppy an insult after all these years then it is very sad, and as a nation you are in trouble. The Americans forgave the Germans and especially the Japanese in WW 1 and 2, ditto the Commonwealth, we are now friends. If Eire has this attitude persisting then you will suffer, perhaps a hard border will happen soon regardless, I find it strange that this persists and feel sorry for your country that can't let go of the past. Remember the Western world observes this day (America with Veterans Day) for instance, would you not like to join us? I see no reason you could not celebrate the Easter rising, if it was done in the correct way, applauding the bravery of your countrymen, but remember our country was at the time embroiled in a far larger conflict so do not bring wrongs, which were correct in those times, into a modern scenario and make those soldiers, doing a job, villains, that is quite wrong, and it prevails in Eire. I find your words 'it is an insult' to honour the war dead poor,

So why are they ashamed to support the Easter rising I'm interested? , I have far more respect for them than the recent cowardly lot that bombed and maimed innocents deliberately, they fought properly and bravely, your nation should be proud. I read a couple of books on this some years ago, it was very interesting and nothing to be ashamed of, in British terms (Empire) a small blip.

Sorry you feel this way but it is only a insult if you give it that weight...Here in America during the Civil War it truly was brother against brother...Right in my very family they fought from both sides,Both believing in something to fight for...Today there are reminders and the same thing happens here...Some give them weight to be seen a insulting...Truth is as I visit family graves both of the North and of the South I see them as hero,s who for their own personal reasons took up arms to fight and die for what they believed in...That is what built America ! Today you see people from the North coming/moving South demanding Graves,Monuments and Statues to be removed from sight because they themselves have gave weight to something...

Maybe you should reread my post.  I did not make the poppy avatar to support the poppy, I made it because all of the people around the world wear poppy's to show their support and respect to all the veterans world wide who died to give the us freedom we enjoy today.

There are also war veterans on your tiny little island that the rest of the world will show support and respect to since you seem to lack in that area!!!

Why the poppy was chosen?

The poppy was chosen as the symbol to acknowledge those who did not make the journey home from the battlefields of Flanders and Northern France because its resilience meant it was one of the first blooms to appear on ground ravaged and churned by fighting and artillery fire.

In Flanders Fields

By John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

As I said my last part last night. I had no feelings towards the poppy leaf at all. I just had a few beers on me last night and shouldnt of commented at all.

My wrongdoings, it's all good now ?
